A great result, but another poor performance again. Our defence in the first half making all sorts of school boy errors and practically all our players seemed incapable of taking freekicks & throw-ins. Two well taken penalties and BWG nearly broke the net with the third. Some strange refereeing decisions, allowing Canvey players to repeatedly kick the ball away after conceding freekicks, then booking Forbes for shooting after being given off side. He also allowed one of their players to roll back onto the pitch after going down off the pitch injured. Our second penalty was well flagged by the linesman after the referee had allowed the advantage after their keeper (who had a fine game otherwise) handled the ball outside the area. The ball fell to BWG? on the edge of the area and his shot was 'saved' by a defender a yard inside who then went down injured as a result. To my mind the correct decision would have been to book the keeper for the deliberate handball and then send off the defender as he was clearly last man. It would appear that every Canvey supporter had a different view though :-)

I can't believe he didn't even book the keeper. It used to be a sending off offence.

It was really important for us to bounce back after the defeat at Horsham. We didn't play a lot better (despite a much better pitch than at Gorings Mead!), and again conceded an early goal, with Canvey whipping a worrying number of crosses into our box throughout the game. We were fortunate that they gave away two penalties, both expertly converted by Forbes (bottom left then top right) with BWG adding a cracking third goal on the break.
