I would go with Matt Gray and either JC or CE as player assistant. Matt has been part of the coaching staff for 6 months and he was bought to the club by Paul D and for me it has a feeling of the brilliant Liverpool boot room of the 70’s, 80’s. Shankly to Paisley to Fagan and so on (Dalglish). JC & CE are the leaders player wise in the dressing room and again looking to the future I think it would be great to get them involved in the coaching part too. Where have all the player/managers gone (I used to love seeing that). Have you got a crystal ball, Sol?! Congratulations, Matt, and the best of luck.

...I've just changed my status message. "In Dos We Trust" no longer seems appropriate.

However, I genuinely believe in any organisation you should look to within your own staff to replace outgoing staff. And MG has 12 years of experience as an assistant and first team coach, but if you never give anyone a chance then you’ll never know.

Yes, congratulations and the best of luck to Matt Gray. - I shall be rooting for him from the start, and urge everyone else to do the same. I'm sure most will anyway, but it's disappointing to already hear the naysayers already out in force on other social media.

An excellent choice! The Board have avoided the Man Utd mistake of trying to replace a legend with an outsider. Matt has the benefit of knowing the set up and players before he gets into the hot seat. Also,in what is always a results-based job, this is the perfect time of the season to start because a manager has until August until the results need to count.
Best wishes MG for a Triumph!

Welcome Matt Gray, I know Dos recommended him to the board, and who are we to argue I understand SUFCtv will be doing his first managerial interview tomorrow, so lets see what he has to say? To clarify my earlier posts on this thread, I want to see a positive message from the board to support this appointment and a message that Matt is here to build on the platform that Dos built. ONWARD AND UPWARDS

Yes, I agree. My first impulse was to see this as a slighly underwhelming choice. But, on reflection, it is very coherent and has many pluses. Matt knows our structure but hasn't been here so long as to be wedded to the ways of the prior regime. His previous work would suggest he'll have sufficient player contacts in and around our level. Most importantly, this is his first big job, so he can't really afford to mess it up. The position is going to be defining for him in a way that it wouldn't be for more experienced, external candidates. He's got to earn his own laurels, here. Which is excellent motivation. And one assumes that the board just liked his ideas, of course!

I'm glad we have "promoted" Matt to the position and wish him the best of luck. There are too many managers going round and round and not offering much different - someone with fresh ideas and motivation/enthusiasm ticks the boxes for me. Great point earlier about the Lincoln duo, they've done an outstanding job and show that experience doesn't mean everyting. Hopefully we can shake the unrealistic expectations from elements of our fans that seem to have dogged us this last year or so. Like a poster said earlier, survival should be our primary focus and I think anything better should be deemed a great achievement. Very pleased that the board acted so quickly too. Proof will be in the pudding but I have every confidence in their decision making - when you compare that to some of the other muppets running football clubs it reminds me how lucky we are!

the best of luck to Matt Gray. - I shall be rooting for him from the start, From an Australian perspective that really is going over and above the call of duty...... I certainly won't be doing any hanky panky on his behalf but he certainly he has my full support .....sorry , couldn't resist it.

I have no alibi but I'm not sure what I'm being accused of I readily admit to having a filthy mind though. It takes one to know one after all.
