There's a wide but nuanced range of views on this forum about our new manager. Fifty shades of Gray?

I appreciate the feedback, even if I don't necessarily agree with it. I would like to think the majority of my posts are constructive and didn't realise the occasional puns were rubbing some up the wrong way. Then again, we have got some Meldrew-grade curmudgeons on here so I can't say I'm that surprised. If the worst thing about this forum is some occasional wordplay then things can't be bad.

I think if it was an occasional pun it wouldn't be an issue but we've all seen recently that a number of threads have just drifted off into punland. Whilst everyone has their specific tastes, the reason we all come on here is for Sutton United related stuff, so I'm sure you can agree the frustration of some. And indeed you do post some very constructive stuff indeed. Think it's a little harsh to call some on here "Meldrew-grade curmudgeons" because they feel the puns have detracted from the primary reason they visit the forum, don't you think?

True, the Meldrew brigade can be irksome. I think the particular trouble with puns, though, (generally) is that one person puns, then a bunch of others pun back, in sequence, which takes us back to the first punner, and so on it goes. Somewhat losing the thread in the process. Still on for a pint next season, trev. You can pun all you want, if you're buying.

I just think a little sense of perspective is in order. Not sure what my "serious" posts to puns ratio is as I have neither the time nor inclination to count, but I strongly suspect the former outweighs the latter by some margin. For the record, I've always found you to be reasonable Andy, and I have no wish to antagonise anyone so I'm happy to tone it down for the sake of keeping the peace.

And yes, I am a Tim Vine fan, but I'm guessing people have figured that by now.

Well, that’s quite a refreshing change for this forum - someone taking on board some feedback/criticism and choosing to act on it. Normally things get taken the wrong way and it escalates to something of a slanging match!

the trouble with football forums is that they littered with morons and this site is no different. So why are you posting a comment then? I take it you are a expert on morons.

Normally things get taken the wrong way and it escalates to something of a slanging match! Read above...you were saying? I heartily agree with trev and with other posters comments and can easily tone it down re puns, but as amberchoc states above re escalation, there is no need in the first instance to name calling and I object, and although I include trev in this(I trust he doesn’t mind)there is no place on this forum for it. We might take the p—s every so often but it is all in good taste and is meant to cause no harm. I might be a gerri but do have some respect for others and this is Sutton United Forum not Leyton Orient!!

I shall in future provide a wun pun service that’s all and no, it’s not a Chinese takeaway.

What gets me are the smart arse comments that only a few similarly educated people would understand.

Note to the pun brigade: I absolutely adore puns. Wordplay is my thing. To avoid annoying others with an excess of it, can we start a little punning club in the other bit of the forum (where the word association thread is)? I tried starting a puns thread once but it didn't really take off.

What gets me are the smart arse comments that only a few similarly educated people would understand. But surely permitted in the London Borough of Sutton which has preserved its grammar schools. At which smart-arsery is taught (or was when I attended one) and pupils prepared for elevation to a higher seat of learning.
Also in the far off days when Sutton's players were amateurs and mostly from local homes several were former grammar school pupils and one or two were masters.
