I know what I'd prefer, having been to both and given a choice between a nice weekend in a lovely city like Newcastle or a day trip to a squaddie infested crap hole with Victorian era facilities and a shower of dopey "ultras" who are basically "Palace lite". Nice to see the "sod you Jack I'm alright" is alive and well though Palace Lite? Great!..... I am booking my tickets for Aldershot as soon as I can! Howay the Lads! Well, if you're planning on doing both Aldershot and BW, I hope your application for the second mortgage is successful!

Yes but who does a day trip to Aldershot ! Come to that who does a day trip to Newcastle ! The straightforward answer to that one is anyone to travels to either place and returns on the same day. Hope that helps.

Hope that helps. Oh it does but i didn't find it particularly easy to get there and back to Newcastle on the same day and wouldn't have had much time to admire the City !

Aldershot - nice ground, crap town Gateshead - nice town, crap ground
Those of you who still want to go to Newcastle for a weekender, remember we've still got a trip to Hartlepool this season which isn't too far away!

No I can imagine it would've been a bit of a rushed job. Whenever I've been, I've stayed overnight. When you get the chance, well worth a look. Very nice city. Easily my favourite large place oop north

Yes I'd go along with that assessment. Or for anyone who wants a real urban safari I've heard Middlesbrough is absolutely delightful!!

Am I the only one who thinks when a team is lost to a division, the beneficiary should be a club which narrowly failed to get promotion (nowadays, the play off loser) rather than a club which has had an abject season and ended in a relegation place? Why shouldn't Gateshead be replaced by Spennymoor or Welling (on a PPG basis)? Aldershot have already shown they weren't good enough.

I guess its because Gateshead have taken one of the last relegation places which means that Aldershot finish 5th from bottom in theory. That's my take on it anyway but your theory has merit although getting Spennymoor to play Welling for the place now would undoubtedly be difficult if not impossible !

Weston Super Mare made a career of benefiting from other club's misfortunes - what was it? 4 reprieves in the Conference South over 14 years until finally finishing rock bottom this season?

Despite being (as far as they knew at the time) relegated, Aldershot start top of the league

Oh yeah I suppose it depends on whether you include that bit. It feels like cheating but yeah, the National League website has them first alphabetically.
