Fantastic performance from the team, every player seemed to play well. Keep that commitment up and we can have a decent season.

The Aleman was probably seeing twice as many Pools forwards than there actually were... Alas, travel delays meant there was no time for my usual pre-match drinking in Hartlepool.๐ (I had a pint in the Rat Race after the game though.๐) It may just have been my impression, but, even in the first half, I thought Pools had more of the ball and more pressure. The Sutton players, of course, used their spells of possession to better effect. I understand that this is how MG intends to set up in away league games: contain and counter. If that's right it certainly worked a treat yesterday.

Well done the squad and of course Matt and Jason. The classic away performance. Get in front, get a second as cushion then whether the storm before scoring a third on the counter. Sounds simple but takes an awful lot of organisation, concentration and hard work.
All three of those attributes were in evidence in abundance yesterday afternoon as U's continued their fine form at Victoria Park remaining unbeaten there taking seven points from nine.
U's set up like they had against Chelsea the previous Saturday with the one personnel change being Tom B in for David A. What a masterstroke. Tom arguably gave his best performance since returning to GGL from Grimsby and gave the young left back a torrid afternoon until he departed for David A. The first goal arrived from that flank, Harry B heading through the grasp of home 'keeper Killip into the top corner. Kabamba then fired a fine strike against a post but U's continued to threaten with Harry coming out of the whole and Kenny D pushing too. The second came from Tom B's ball into Aaron J who touched on for Harry to squeeze through the gap and fire under Killip.
The home crowd was shell-shocked but got a life-line 10 seconds from h-t when Gime T (who else?) got some space and hit a fine low drive into the net from the edge of the box.
Second half U's were under the cosh as the home crowd finally awoke and 'Pools searched for a second. One overhead kick, a blocked shot and a powerful, but wide strike following a flowing move on the break were the sum efforts though. Meanwhile, U's countered well and the introduction of Omar B would prove pivotal. he first set up David A but he didn't get a great connection but having seen a flicked header drift just wide of Jamie B's far post, U's countered again and Omar found Will R and he fired in via Killip's glove and the inside of a post.
A tremendous start for U's - the club's first away win on opening day since 2006 when John Scarborough netted late at a rain soaked Cressing Road.
The defence was superb. Dale B controlled agression, Rob M solid and the back two of Ben G - who headed everything - and Skip just superb. Pools fans may think JC is a fat bastard but he had the last laugh. The midfield worked very hard (John B executing the tackle of the afternoon) while the lone striker, Aaron J was always available and a willing runner. But Harry B has to take the honours for Motm with two goals some superb tackling and a fantastic engine.
The ref, making his debut at NL level was sensible. No Carl Brook here (another two reds from him yesterday, although it would appear he had little choice). I doubt the level yesterday's guy met for most of the fixture will be met that often this season.
A good day out that started with delays at Kings Cross in the morning but ended (for me) after a 680 plus round trip and an 18 hour day when I strolled through the front door at 2340. Well worth it.
Barnet next and a different set of issues to face at GGL.

Just got back home after an overnight stop at Doncaster.
What a result. As markf says it has been a long time since we won an opening day away fixture. 71 fans made the trip according to the Hartlepool PA and a good crowd overall in the ground. Well worth the long journey even though i didn't take in all the sites. We keep playing like this then we will be in with a shout at the end of the season because Hartlepool were a good team !

Anyone know when the highlights are available and if BT sport are still doing their highlights show on YouTube?

Harry Beautyman was named in the NLP's National League team of the day. Yet they only gave him 7/10 when some of our other players got 8/10!
