Forest green spent 20 years in this division, largely trying to avoid relegation. Just looking at the comparative size of teams in this league, aiming for much more than survival is optimism bordering on foolishness.

All we need to do is keep in proofing each year on and off the field which we are doing and we will be thine. Just look where we were twenty years a go, no where.

And came straight back down again Billy. We wasn't ready and losing Akrour and Steve Watson in theat close season did for us.

A rather blustery day at GGL and at times reminiscent of the trip to Daventry some years back Funnily enough I mentioned that game yesterday when the floodlight pylons started creaking!

Forest Green played in a small village and is hardly comparable with the London borough Of Sutton. The football supporters are there as we well know when we go on cup runs.

Fair enough but you'd hardly say the club was "nowhere" after winning the league by 11 points with a 50 plus goal difference ! Are we really ready for this current league ? It always saddens me to hear supporters going on about how many points their club needs to avoid being relegated early on in the campaign.Doing so after three games,in Sutton's case unbeaten , is ludicrous.

What do you suggest, 45 games in on 50 points. There are many more strong ex EFL teams in this league now and discussing points is part and parcel of our support.

After being hit by those 2 early goals I was impressed by the character shown to come back. Rob Milson I think is key to us improving. Also when Dylan came on - maybe too late - he chased everything.

On the other hand, some might say that deriding the prospect of achieving a decade of stability at this level, is ludicrous.

We've no divine right to be in this league. We're not in the Isthmian now and looking at some of the other sides around us who regularly get 4,000+ through the gate, the fact we are competitive in this division is a huge bonus. But there's nothing wrong at all in saying that the first target in the league is to avoid relegation. It's not the only target.

Quite right. Matt Gray has made it abundantly clear in pre-season interviews that his aspiration for the season is the playoffs, but survival has to be the number one priority.

At the end of the season we will be where we are on merit. If you are trying to get good players to join the club ,at any level, then we need to have ambition. We have to work within our budget and find ways to supplement it.We are not out of place in this league. We can go away anywhere and win as we have shown in previous seasons.
These big clubs are in our division are there as they have fallen on hard times.
