Very happy to see Tommy Wright back on the scoresheet where he belongs.
I'll hold my hands up and admit that if someone had asked me pre-season whether we'd be unbeaten after five games, I would have said no chance. What a way to start a managerial career. Way to go, Matt Gray!

Just seen it on the BT highlights show and it wasn't the best strike but goals breed confidence and so do wins.
Nice assist from the evergreen Dundo, absolute legend.
BTW the BT highlights show is brilliant to see the goals so quickly after Saturday matches have finished for those of us who can't make it regularly.

Our third consecutive win at BW and our first clean sheet of the season. Things are looking up.
We started with Omar Bugiel up front, Eastmond and Davis returning from injury to replace Jarvis and Beautyman who had picked up knocks at Eastleigh. Defences were in control for most of this match. BW perhaps shaded the first hour, but as the second half progressed we started to get a grip on the game, with Tom B and David A having some joy attacking from the flanks. Home keepeer David Gregory had already saved from Rob Milsom before being beaten by what was almost Tommy W's first touch after coming on for Omar. In truth it wasn't the cleanest of strikes, and Gregory will probably feel that he should have done better than allow the ball to ricochet off him and into the net. But being able to convert that one chance is what makes Tommy such a special player. It's great to have him back.
The result hauls us up to 6th. We are one of just three sides unbeaten in the NL (the others being Bromley and Solihull). MG will be pleased now with the week's break before what's likely to be another testing game at home to Dover next Saturday.

Really good to see Tommy back on the score sheet, and our first clean sheet under Matt. The side looks to have gelled really quickly, and in truth it looks although Matt has been the gaffa for much longer than he has. Sitting unbeaten on 9pts after 5 matches is a better start than I originally envisaged. So no complaints at all, onward and upwards.

A magnificent attendance of 407 saw us take the game to BW and boss it for most of the time. it was a bit like the Sutton of old but without the cutting edge still. However the introduction Of Tommy Wright was perfectly timed as his first touches brought a shot at goal which crept under goalkeeper Gregory. The keeper probably should have done better but who cares as it brought us our second league win of the season and pushed us up to 6th place. I thought our midfield was the strongest we have played this season especially with Craig Eastmond back. Not fit enough for 90 minutes and picked up his customary booking. Any team in this League can beat any other but so far no other team has beaten us. Well done Matt Gray.

Went the day well. Started with an unexpectd encounter with a former Sutton midfielder, he checked my train ticket, and ended with my planned time arrival at Littlehampton - a three train return trip.
In between, there was a trip to Meadow Park, resplendent with new stand at the far end which, I suspect, receives more patrons when Arsenal Ladies are playing such was the poor turn out from the locals. A gate of 407, a good 25% of which stood or sat in the "away" end. One wonders why Danny Hunter carries on and as much as he is disliked for some of his draconian policies (the fee for away club commentary a prime example) you have to applaud him for continuing to support a club that the local townsfolk have little interest in. Ryman North they ain't though. Where in that league would you find a Premier League grade playing surface? Ok, one suspects that the lodgers have a say in the quality of surface but to be fair, The Wood has always provided a decent pitch this one is just a few notches up the quality scale.
I am not sure why some would boycott the place? I'll watch U's wherever they are scheduled to play irrespective of admission charges or anything else. And three consecutive league victories at MP has provided a superb return for those whose principles won't get in the way of watching their team play. (Should add I have very few principles anyway. The world is bad enough without me adding to its woes).
AA above reckons BW shaded the first hour. Really? I thought we started well with the welcome return of Craig E taking on the role that the unfortunate Harry B has done so well in our opening fixtures. Running at players, beating them, drawing fouls and coming close to continuing his decent scoring record at MP. Both Wood's centre-backs were cautioned for fouls in the first 20 minutes as U's drove forward using both wings and finding some joy through the middle.
The home side took a while to settle but with defences on top clear cut opportunities were lacking providing an interesting if not gripping contest. Tshimanaga looked a handful but was well chaperoned by another solid display by the Sutton defence. One wayward square pass set up a home attack but it was blotted out while another led to Craig E seeing yellow on his return - "one for the team" as modern football parlance goes.
Wood started brightly in the second but Jamie B was well protected and as the match went on U's continued to threaten with David A taking on allcomers and the full-backs adding to the attack. In the end though the goal came from a combination of two subs - Messrs Dundas and Wright. Dundo's flick, Tommy gets past Champion and scuffs his shot a tad. Perhaps Gregory was expecting a skimmer across the pristine surface? Whatever, he failed to deal with it and the ball was in the onion bag. Tommy was back and how great that feeling must have been for him.
Another win on the road. Solid defence. Great work by Kenny D and in particular Jon B in deep midfield while Omar B run his goolies off and went close with two second half efforts. Matt G's work ethic continues to impress and his squad take that onto the pitch and give it their all. Can't ask for much more.
As for the ref. He upset the home crowd (gathering?) at times but they were lucky to see Champion not get a second yellow, saved by Sutton carrying on with the play and him using the advantage rule correctly. We will see far worse but have already seen better. He got all four cautions right but I reckon we had a decent shout for a pen in the first half although Craig E will probably feel he should have hit the target a second later.
Onto Dover who have started well with two away wins from two and as ever will provide difficult opposition.

I believe the BW pitch is a hybrid pitch of grass and artificial fibres called a Desso pitch. Most, if not all, Premier League and I'd imagine Championship clubs have them.
It was the kind of pitch Dos was talking about us potentially getting if we got promoted into the FL and had to rip up the 3G so we could continue with the current business model.
It can't take the ware and tear of a 3G pitch but can be used more than a standard grass pitch but they aren't cheap.

This result makes it a very good start now. Well done to Matt, management team and the squad. Tommy coming back and getting that boost to the confidence a major plus. Hopefully he can find some minutes (academy time?) to help him along whilst picking up his sub appearances. Easty coming back in also great news - shows the strength in depth and competition for places in that midfield area that we have done pretty well without him.

The world is bad enough without me adding to its woes). Seems pretty obvious given the piss take prices etc. People have to decide where they draw the line with clubs taking advantage. For some that line is breached with BW. You have indicated you don't have a line. If Aldershot decided to charge £30 next Monday would you happily go on your way and pay it? Seems so but clearly a few more will decide their line will have been crossed at that point (extreme example). The PL have ignored fans interests for years and supporters have allowed it by not taking a stand. Interesting interview below. Seems like the beginning of the end for BW at this level if he follows through on his suggested intentions there. I'd suggest sensible pricing would be a good place to start. Seems like their £99 ST offer will also be dead after this season. www.borehamwoodfootballclub.co.uk/uncategorized/lack-of-support-a-concern/

In response to your question GarethL, the answer is yes.
BW aren't the only club who charge £20 and the lack of concessions doesn't affect me.
Good to see 129 were like minded on Saturday.
You could look at in another way, that being using the colossal saving we currently enjoy when buying a sufc season ticket to help cover the cost of the more expensive away day entrance fees.
Certainly not going to allow the pricing policies of other clubs to prevent me from watching my team.

It's a great start to the season, but amazingly enough it's actually been our worst start to the season since coming back to this level. After 5 games: 2016/17 P3 10 points 2017/18 P1 12 points 2018/19 P4 11 points 2019/20 P6 9 points The funny thing is although statistically it may be, it doesn't feel like it. Plus of course there are another 41 games to get through. In the games I've watched so far (all bar Hartlepool), the way we're playing and our approach and teamwork is a million miles away from what we watched from January onwards last year. Saturday was a hard fought win and that will bode well for the next few months, especially when the going gets tough in colder conditions, worse pitches and tiredness affecting players more. We've got every reason to be happy at the moment! We're certainly happier than the BW chairman www.borehamwoodfootballclub.co.uk/uncategorized/lack-of-support-a-concern/?fbclid=IwAR1mHiXsWFxbwuwzdPobYGdJ29F-TKrQS4wKO2BtKGLcGk4wQL-qJkk01iUEDIT : Seems I was writing my post at the same time Gareth posted the same link, so apologies for giving it out again. But it's worth a read!
