I have just witnessed sport at its very BEST England with Ben Stokes winning the test what sport what a player, that said what I witnessed yesterday was nothing like sport Dover came To do a job on us and they succeed but it wasn’t football it was a game of British Bulldog or wrestling yes they got 3 points which to a lot of people is all that matters however if I was feed that kind of performance each week I would soon tire of it and would not attend ans we are or should I say inheriting the game that the officials give they are continuing to let these tactics go unchecked linesman are a frustrating waste of space ref,s must have some sort of agenda as they continue to let blatant infringements of the rules go unpunished I couldn’t tell you who was the best footballing team yesterday as Dover didn’t play football and stopped us playing what a shame

I think some of the criticisms of Dover are a little unfair. Yes they're a physical side who like to get the ball forward early and are adept at running down the clock once they have the lead. But similar criticisms have been levelled at Sutton in the recent past.
Ultimately a lot of this is about effective game management. If a team is guilty of clear infringements then they can be penalised by the referee. The officials we had yesterday weren't great, but I don't recall them getting any big decisions wrong. Would another yellow card shown to a visiting player, a throw given Sutton's way rather than Dover's, or an extra two minutes added on, have led to a different result? I doubt it.

So glad I have Sky. To watch that this afternoon and I admit I only saw when we only need 50 runs, only, but it had everything and somewhat temoered the disappointment of yesterday's first defeat of the season.
Certainly one thing in common was poor officiating because Stokes was so out to Lyon it was not true while yesterday we had officials who - and I am trying to be kind here - couldn't cope with the heat.
To the match and Dover was the best side we've played thus far and while the first half was an even contest and ended so thanks to skips brilliant free-kick once they took the lead U's never looked like gettin it back. Dover worked hard off the ball and were well organised. U's were hampered by the loss off Dale B and later Omar B during that second half but I am not sure there continued presence would have changed the result. Very much like U's win at Hartlepool, Dover's was based on decent defending and providing a fast attacking threat.
Matt G will be fuming about the goals we conceded the first - another from a set piece - but a fine finish by Will Spetch's nemesis, Modeste and the second on the break after Worgan had stopped Harry B's effort. I though Motm, Effiong, who, was pilloried on Dover's forum under Kinnear, used a two hand shove to get in front of Dale B and Jamie B seemed out of position to deal with what was still a fine finish. Wait to see that again.
Churlish to blame Jamie B who had made some fine saves to keep Dover out in the first half. Harry B should have hit the target from a header but Worgan's saves were mainly comfortable gathers.
Onto Worgan and his time wasting antics. We have to be balanced here because Jamie B has been cited for similar in the past but it is up to the ref to do something about it and when I pointed out to him in the first half he just laughed at me. Absolute tosser. We pay good money to watch a game of football not an afternoon punctuated by deliberate time wasting that he can't be arsed to deal with. It wasn't his only failing as he missed a hell of a lot. Gave throw-ins the wrong way and the foul on Harry B in the second half that he failed to give a f-k for just summed his afternoon of absolute incompetence. That said, he did not adversley effect the outcome.
At least my afternoon started well with the presentation of 40 odd 1930's Sutton programmes. Thanks Dave they are facinating.
Onto Aldershot and a ground we're we often play well but don't get our just rewards. Let's hope Carl Brook has f'd off on holiday.

The one up top is not working at all whoever it is upfront is always isolated or is marked every well by the opponent

Time-wasting by Dover and officials.
As mentioned above Sutton try on the same time-wasting tactics when ahead, and provided the referee permits it.
Every referee is assessed at every VNL match by two assessors and these gentlemen sit immediately behind me in the stand at GGL - so I overhear what they say. It would be wrong to quote exactly what I heard at the Dover game, but the assessors noted the time-wasting. They agreed to raise the topic of the referee's handling of it, which concerned them. As I understand it, the assessors do discuss with the ref after each game how they rated him.
I feel time wasting will continue to be a bigger problem in the VNL than in the EPL, like the arm-wrestling at corners did, until refs in the VNL issue exemplary punishments. The Keeper is the obvious place to start because if they get booked for time-wasting in 5 games they miss a game, and are not easily replaced. Referees don't seem willing to take a personal initiative about any new fad for bending the rules until leagues or FA's isue a general directive.
