I am definitely not sure that changing the Manager would prevent us from being relegated but on the evidence before us I am afraid I believe that if we don’t change then we will almost certainly lose our place in this division. I believe we should have confidence in both the profile of our club being able to attract the right Manager and in Bruce and our Board being able to convince that man to come on the right terms. If that really is not the case then I would be looking to give JC a go at a player/ manager role. . Or Dundo? Good result for United last night Dave ! Are you the bloke who sits in the stand at Sutton with the United shirt on with KEANE on the back ?

Both Jamie Collins and Craig Dundas stand very tall at this club and both, especially Jamie, are on field leaders. But I'm a bit lost as why anyone is considering either of them as a possible step in should Matt leave.
Some (many) on here are lamenting Matt's lack of management expeience at this level. Would not that be doubly true in the case of Jamie and Dundo? How could Jamie (for example) be expected to have the tactical nous, the management skills and the possible loan player contacts to make a go of this now? In the future, potentially. But, now?

How could Jamie (for example) be expected to have the tactical nous, the management skills and the possible loan player contacts to make a go of this now? In the future, potentially. But, now? Spot on. "Replace manager with very little management experience with a manager with..erm no managerial experience" isn't the most convincing argument for an upturn in fortunes. Historians correct me if I'm wrong (and it's of course very possible), but aside from Ernie Howe and Dos (who you could argue appointed the club rather than the club appointing him!) I can't think of a manager since Sid Cann who didn't have a pre-existing link with the club before being appointed. Going back in time you have Jimmy Dack, Stuart Massey (as caretaker), Ian Hazel, John Rains, Ted Shephard, Larry Pritchard, Alan Gane, Keith Blunt, Barrie Williams, Dario Gradi, Ted Powell all had played for or had previously been on the coaching staff before becoming manager. Matt Gray followed that "tradition". So maybe sometime in the future either of those could be. If they wanted to. We have no idea if either of them see themselves in football management going forward. Not every ex player wants to be a manager, and we shouldn't make an assumption that is what either of them want to do.

They're not all good at it, either. Coaching, tactical awareness and team management are all very different skills.

Some times it just takes a big personality, passion and inspiration to get a team going. Maybe JC and or Dundo could do that. Who knows? But to do nothing looks like certain relegation.

I predict that JC will make an excellent manager and there’s nothing to say that wouldn’t be right away. Experience is only one factor. After all we’ve taken a punt on Matt with no managerial experience already, so we must have the belief that isn’t a barrier to making a success out of it! Though none of the above should be construed as advocating him taking over! A lot of that is down to him and of course he still offers so much as a player that the time may not be right for him!
One thing is for sure things can’t get much worse than the current form - not scored in 5 out of the last 6 league games, thrashed in the FA Cup by a lower league side and lost at home to the (then) bottom club.
I can certainly understand the argument that we need to act. I can also understand the argument that we need to act sooner rather than later given a decent chunk of the season is done and the results are getting worse not better.
But I am happy to leave the decision making to people who know what they are doing and with access to all the information needed. I hope Matt can turn it round.

I'd love Matt to turn it around but I'm not optimistic.
But we have given an unproven Manager his first job.

Some of the greatest players this country has ever produced have made a complete pig's ear of football management. As for fast tracking ex players as referees.....
