I understand Byron and Gyebi was our centre-back pairing last night. Young lads but big and physical as Goodliffe mentioned in the post-match interview. Granted we were playing a much inferior side but did either of them show qualities that could indicate they might be able to step up to first team duty if called upon this season?

Finished 3-0 (Brown, Jarvis, Wright). Nice for Wayne to get a goal on his return from that long injury lay-off. Tommy struck the goalframe three times! The academy players did well (three started, three came on as second-half subs for first-teamers), with Kiyo Brown catching the eye on the right wing. It may be only the SSC, but good to get that first win since 21 September and a first clean sheet since 5 October. Great to see the whole team congratulate Wayne after scoring. He then went over to the bench, it seems he was thanking the Physio staff for their support during his injury.

Their positional sense was very good and they worked well as a pair. Both strong positives - but it is impossible to tell how they would cope with a VNL attack until they face one.
