I’ll bow to many observers greater knowledge.
But what about R Deacon & C Eastmond...

Worner
Telfer, Downer, Collins, Underwood
Massey, Bailey, Rogers, Scott
Dennis, Ekoku
Notable mentions - Barrowcliff, Golley bros, McKinnon, Barnes, Nurse, Pouton, Eastmond. Also liked Mark Costello. Most underrated Andy Salako - created so many goals!
I don’t pre date 90’s too much as a youngster 😀
Off top of my head and probably forgotten loads! Will likely want to change once others get mentioned. Struggled for right backs, went with quality of Telfer.

It's very difficult to pick teams like this. Different era's equal a different game. Good fun though and I'll have a think!

My team is fairly similar to Admin's. Had to find a place for both Joyce and McKinnon. Ideally I wanted Awaritefe in the starting line up but just couldn't get him in.
Wanted Stuart Massey and Andy Barnes in there too!

....... Howells....... ....Downer Clough Laker Bennett..... Bailey...... Bolt ...... Eastmond Deacon .............Akrour .......Morah
subs: mccauslky,smart,watson,j.taylor, Collins,vansittart, Wright
Going 3-5-2 to accommodate everyone. Maybe a little heavy on flair but still pretty solid with three excellent centre backs and Bailey holding. Bolt and deacon together might be risky but both deserve their place for providing many magic moments and having the ability to create something from nowhere. I did see ekoku play but I can't remember much so I've gone for the raw pace of morah just ahead of the outrageously gifted akrour, with vansittart on the bench to provide aerial threat.

Jeez, I started this and didn’t shoehorn in the likes of Big Bad Dom, Nassim Akrour, Joffa, Francis (or whatever name he ended up with) Awaratefe, my first hero Dave Hutchins, Micky Mellows, Joycey, the Golleys, Roarie or Able. We have been blessed. Still think Simon Quail is my favourite, even though he was certifiably mad and only with us for a while. Efan is the fastest player I have ever seen in any level of football: in his year with us and early career he was like greased lightning. Skipper; got to John Rains. Boss; Barry Williams. Coach; Alan Gane (I liked him!)

I like that choice of Toby Jinadu - he much such a huge difference when he came into the team 2003/4 I think we lost just one match between Boxing Day 2003 and the end of the season when he came in and made an instant difference. If we had had him from the start we would have run away with the title and not Canvey Island. Anyone remember Steve Galloway mid eighties I think?

While this is all good fun, what we really ought to do sometime is have a huge set of polls to determine ‘The Greatest Ever Sutton United XI as voted for by forum members’. Off the top of my head, we could start with a period of time during which any number of players can be nominated. Then each player would need to be bracketed into which position they qualify for. Assuming 4-4-2 for convenience, there could be: goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back (x2), left-back, right midfield, centre midfield (x2), left midfield and striker (x2). Then finally we’d have a separate poll for each position.
Just throwing it out there as a very rough thought. It may be a bit too ambitious!

Cracking thread
Getting it down to an XI is really really tough, especially with 5 decades to choose from (and resisting the opportunity to name 11 Paul Mckinnons as my greatest ever team), but here goes
GK - Worner DF - Downer, R Jones, Clough, M Golley MF - Massey, Rogers, Eastmond, Bailey FW - McKinnon, Ekoku
Subs - Dundas, Awaratife, Stephens, Jinadu, Gray, Fearon, Hemsley
(and amberchoc, that would be a great thing to do! Maybe we could do a monthly thing!)

This is always a fascinating exercise and one I have thought about many times. I usually give up when it gets to the strikers. Just how do you pick two, or even three, from the following:- Vaughan, Hermitage, Goodall, Osborne, Mellows, Drabwell, Kidd, Ives, Joyce, McKinnon, Galloway, Awaritefe, Dennis, Ekoku, Barnes, Feltham, Morah, Vansittart, Akrour, Nurse, Dundas.........and I have probably missed a few.
