Friday 13th it maybe but at this time some 50 years ago, a young 8 (and 3 months) lad was gearing up to watch his first live football match.
With 70 y.o. grandfather as my guardian for the afternoon we strolled up GGL to watch U's defeat Leatherhead by 2-0 in the Amateur Cup and a lifelong devotion was born.
I was talking with kbb on the way back from Fylde and we just reflected upon how lucky we have been to watch SUFC over this 50 year period (him a few years more than that). Five league titles, a trip to Wembley, four incredible FA Cup runs, numerous minor cup victories and of course, the Anglo-Italian triumph. A huge number of outstanding players that makes picking a bext XI ever impossible plus a number of fine managers.
Comaraderie between players and fans and officials that is the essence of this club remains strong.
Friendships that have lasted that period forged through a common interest and others that have been more fleeting.
It has and continues to be an absolute privilege to support SUFC and I just hope I have a few more years left to enjoy.

MARKF:
A remarkable journey.
And to follow anything for 50 years with the passion and enthusiasm you have is inspiring.
Big love to KBB too.

Huge respect to you Mark (and Bob too). I was chatting to you on the way back from the Dagenham game and mentioned that the first time I watched Sutton was the Amateur Cup Final against North Shields in 1969. The Sutton players had a reception at the Hogsmill Tavern (then a decent pub) in Worcester Park in the evening and I got all their autographs in my programme. I have not followed the team though consistently through the years since those days.

That was in the early 1970s at the annual 6 a a side competition organised by the late Dave Hermitage.

Congratulations Frakus! I have many fond memories of you throughout the 70's and 80's offering your advice to the officials and on a number of occasions, to opposing supporters!
