Now we are down, we have to keep Steve Morrison, because the players are playing for him and also for the rebuild that is needed. Yes the last year was poor very poor but since January the performances have been better, so now it’s all about getting a squad together to challenge, won’t be easy but we must use the time in the football league as an inspiration to get back. Bigger clubs than us have come down, so now lets keep moving this club forward and hopefully it won’t be long before we are back.⚽️⚽️⚽️

Bitter sweet day for me as a lifelong Sutton united supporter . My following comments will not please everyone but do you know what I don’t give a shite but I do hope some board members read it , although I doubt it .
First of all the sweet bit . I never thought I would be the proud supporter of an EFL club when I lost my sporting heart to Sutton United many many years ago . I thank Matt and all the players under him for making this possible and I also thank Steve and our current group of players for trying to salvage a sinking ship against all of the odds .
Now for the bitter part . I for one firmly blame the board for our relegation . I am not talking about under investment , they were starting from day one in the EFL with a massive financial handicap trying to get the stadium up to League standard and being forced to rip up a perfectly good revenue earning pitch to comply with the morons that make up the ridiculous rules . Money spent on these projects instead of supporting Matt and the playing staff . That said our first season in League Two was a real blast and for that I again thank Matt and the players . No , my real issue with the board and the reason that I feel we are down was their inability to make an easy decision out of a false sense of loyalty to Matt . For me he should have gone by October given the results and performances towards the end of last season and the beginning of this . Almost all clubs would have said thank you but goodbye , but our board bottled it . Unforgivable if my opinion , not that they will give a shite about how or what I feel .
So what next ? My hope is that we do not fall straight through the National League next season like I currently fear . After all , most of our current squad will disappear during the summer , I hope that Steve does not follow them out of the door . It will be a summer of turmoil and decisions for the board to make . Will we keep our current training facilities , will the squad be full or part time etc ? I hope that they make the correct decisions this time for the good of the club and try to rectify their inaction this season that in my view has let us all down so badly .
Rant all finished now .

I'm not a Sutton United supporter but I thought Steve Morison was a good appointment at the time and the results, and it seems performances, under him have been very impressive. To come so close to survival is frustrating for Sutton supporters but should also give real hope. Lose Morison and goodness knows when you'll ever return to league football. But if he's still with you a year from now you'll either have clinched automatic promotion or be looking forward to the play-offs at least. Good Luck!

Hind sight is a good thing. This was not an easy job that the board had and giving Matt time to get his new players working was one of the options we had. And at times they did show improvement.
In the end the right call was made in time for the transfer window. Would Steve have done anything with the pre xmas crop of players? Who knows.
I think we did give a new manager enough time and he had the transfer window. So I wont be pointing at the board as such.
Credit goes to Steve for pushing us close but There was certainly no certainty that he would have, hence why hindsight is a good thing. You also have to consider that with this club, a change of manager was not just about staying up, but directing us in the future. We couldn't afford 3 or 4 managers like some of the others clubs could.
We came close to pulling it off and could be in a worse position as we go into next season..

Just left too many points out there, don’t think the team should have been relegated but we just didn’t put things together earlier enough in the season. Even a few extra points here and there would have seen us comfortably stay up.
Good to hear Morison staying. He’s done generally well. I still am surprised at some of the personnel decisions but don’t know everything he does in terms of fitness levels etc. But come business time I’d be getting Eastmond in the team. I also am very surprised Duke-McKenna hasn’t been seen a lot more - looked our best talent, a proper footballer. I think the fact we got on that winning run meant he settled on a side which in many ways is fair enough.
Interesting summer ahead, you have to wonder how much turnover there will be. We have the makings of a good defence in the NL - Jackson, Kizzi, Sowunmi, Goodliffe would all be snapped up by a top 6 NL side (if they don’t find another league club). Add a left back and that could work very well with a proper midfield in front of them. Midfield and forward areas could see a fair bit of change.
Great turnout and support for the U’s. Special club and the future remains bright.

I'm saying this now. And I'm very happy for you to quote me this time next year.
We will win something next year - either the title, the play offs or the FA Trophy. Morison has shown he is streets ahead of Matt Gray in terms of pretty much all aspects of management. I'll be forever grateful to Matt for what he did for us, but we got a decent upgrade in January. Better tactics, better performances, fewer mistakes, better recruitment. With him on board next season we're going to do bloody well when he builds his own team, has a full pre-season and has the drive given to him by the personal disappointment of, by his own standards, failure (although I think really among the fanbase and probably the board, no one sees it that way).
He has the horrible job to do on Monday of releasing players, and to be perfectly frank the first area he should look at is the defence. We had the 2nd worse defence in the league, shipping 84 goals over the course of 46 games, and that really was the difference between staying up and going down. I'm sure I'll do more of a post mortem later in the week, but our difficulty to keep a clean sheet really hurt us. Today was an example of that - their first 2 goals at least could and should have been dealt with better by our defenders.
Not that specifically today matters. We could have won 10-0 and still gone down, but we did manage to score the required 4 goals today. Shame we let in 4, but at least we can say we got part of it right.
So we're back to familiar foes in the National league for 24/25, but if this season is anything to go by, and looking at the new teams involved, there is nothing to fear. There looks like a lot of mediocre teams. Get the balance right within our own side and we can do really, really well. I'm not going to be arrogant like Notts County or Leyton Orient and see an instant return as our divine right, but with the set up we have and the way we have turned things around, there's a hell of a lot to be positive about.

The whole team concedes goals not just the defence. Today they played through our midfield with ease, particularly first half. Happened a lot first half of the season. As I say in my post the ingredients are generally there with the personnel defence wise. Wouldn’t be surprised if a couple got league moves (but no one is taking Sam Hart - is it a 3rd league 2 relegation?!!). Indeed from about Matt’s last 8 or 9 games (with the exception of Stockport) and under Steve it’s generally been ok in terms of goals conceded.

I have to agree on both points, the team have given their all, and Steve Morrison very nearly pulled off a miracle. On the second point again I have to agree our EFL exile is entirely down to poor decisions from the board. The failure to replace Matt earlier is a difficult one as it was he who made EFL a reality, and lets not forget took the club to Wembley in a full size cup competition. The failures for me are those decisions not seen above the waterline by the majority. The recruitment off the pitch has been extremely poor often costing the club more than they made for it. The use of consultants and project engineers has been expensive. Media / Social media has suffered poor management, turning what was once known to be one of the best around to one which is unable to film a match on its own. One person on twitter quoted the club's posts as 'gas lighting'. Most of the big jobs are not advertised on the clubs website, but hidden on some obscure recruitment site, where the journeymen preside. I hear fans say but we have some nice infrastructure now, which is of course true, but the club now has 20 years to pay for it, a huge debt that will burden the club going forward, unless those new investors wish to pay it off of course, is it £3 million now or more? For me its all eyes on the board and its plan for the future, if SM is given a good budget then I am sure he can build a decent side. This board however needs to return to its pre EFL ethics, when a quid could be stretched to make 5 and not the other way around. 2 more things, not a single pixel has been added to LED advertising since we put that screen in, given that its cheap as chips now and can be put together by a child, that is abysmal. Also how much money can you throw at a CCTV system and still not get it right, fibre under the pitch day one would have solved all the problems at a fraction of the cost.

Also how much money can you throw at a CCTV system and still not get it right, fibre under the pitch day one would have solved all the problems at a fraction of the cost.F Further good points about the board that I was not aware of and I’m sure that I am not the only one . Prior to our rise to the EFL I used to believe that we were a good “amateur” side with a professional board who indeed really did make things happen behind the scenes to enhance our on pitch ambitions and achievements . Unfortunately it is my opinion that once we became fully professional on the pitch the reverse happened to the board and they became the amateurs , as really clarified this season . I do not expect heads to roll in the boardroom because the damage has been done . It is some of the squad who will pay the price on Monday for the boards amateur performance over the last twelve months . Now we will really see how deep their pockets are , how much ambition they have and if they have learnt any lessons from the last year in particular . Or will any look for a lifeboat and jump ship ?
