What did everybody think about the game tonight.
I thought this would be a tough one and said as much before. Staines finished in a pretty decent position in the division above us last season and would have been on pretty much the same level in terms of fitness and preparation probably (maybe a bit further forward as I believe their season kicks off a week earlier than ours).
I thought that we did pretty well tonight and it was a shame that we could not take any of the chances we created. Still, some really nice football at times and a willingness to go forward whenever possible.
Thought Fola was good tonight and always a threat and the whole team performance was pretty decent all round. Far more positives than negatives (although the biggest negative was probably the disgraceful actions of the Staines player which resulted in the sending off : the programme said it was a friendly match!)

I thought we showed some excellent movement especially before the changes, Dundo and Jolly look dangerous. We have now hit the woodwork 4 times and scored 3 and have made all 5 opposition keepers work hard to keep their sides in matches. Big Wayne really untroubled tonight apart from that 1st min goal and Staines even with 11 v 11 did not look as threatening as they have on our last 2 encounters. Apparently the Staines manager was too busy gobbing off to the ref to realise he initially wanted to ask him to sub the guy, rather then send him off. As we know Staines are a good side in their own right and in a meaningful match Dos would not have weakened his attack with 20 mins to go. All still looks very positive to me

Nope, but injury permitting he'll score plenty!

Good performance. Jolly unlucky not to score after a brilliant pull down, but the keeper did just enough to slow the ball for a goalmouth clearance. He did miss a free header later and looks as if he needs a couple of games to sharpen up. Should have buried Stains with the volume of chances we created (sound familiar?). Everyone is looking good though & I thought Dundo gave them real problems. Movement and passing is looking very good.

Only disappointment was not scoring really. Performance was ok. Although I wouldn't say we overly worked their 'keepers. Both only had one real save to make each over the 90mins with the stop from Jolly and the tip over from Brad's shot.
Only the second time I've ever seen someone red carded in a friendly. First was Richard Evans in the early 90's and now Mr Griffiths last night. Certainly livened things up a tad! Shame we din't work the 10 men a bit harder though.

Ha, my old man's called Richard Evans.
Staines brought on just over half a team with about 15 minutes of the second half gone I think so the one man advantage wasn't what it'd usually be as they had a bunch of fresh players running about.
Good game to watch and as said, plenty of positives.

AJ made a challenge on the touchline in front of the stand, Davis went to pick up the ball for what he thought was a throw in. Staines player kicked him, he went down and then handbags started getting swung. Griffiths ran about 30 yards to pile in, jumping in with both fists into the back of someone's head.
Bit daft really. Especially their manager refusing to take him off.

I managed to catch the second half of the game last night - again impressed with how well we are playing already - passing and movement is great to watch. Dundas was quality especially when he moved into centre-mid, I also thought Brad Woods-Garness was a big threat and nearly scored an absolute screamer. Sleggs delivery from crosses is positive - is he still trialling?

Excellent result. As you know, if you win all your pre-season games it normally means you're in for a poor season. Play well and lose should be the target!

Well I got a burger at 830 and the dugouts didn't obscure my view. And again I saw the basis of a very good Sutton team. The thing that struck me last night was our set pieces may need a little bit of working on. The Jolly-Dundas partnership is shaping up really well, and BWG did himself no harm in staking a claim for the starting XI last night. Apart from the first minute, the defence were solid as ever, and the midfield were creative, especially Fola.
I so can't wait till the season starts proper!
Oh yeah, Griffiths has been around long enough to have known better, plonker.
Good to see a couple of ex-U's playing, Simon Jackson and Ali Chaaban. Shame there wasn't a penalty shout for Staines though, I wanted to see Ali fight for the ball....

I echo all the above but would say that Wayne Shaw had nothing to do except regulation catches kicks etc and both their keepers had saves to make. The goal was a farce. A blatant body block on one of our players in the centre circle not spotted by any official and then a pass threaded through where the Staines player seemed a yard off-side. That lino missed another in the first half and then let Jerson get away with one in the second half. Overall a good work out but I thought our dead ball situations were poor but we did hit the woodwoork again AND I still have to see Jolly score. Both Sam and Kes should have made the keeper work for there unchallenged headers. Moving, passing and ball retention much better and quicker than last season imho.

Dundas MOTM for me.
Thought Slag no sorry Slegg done alright last night, just the crossing in the second half was wasteful as Staines had three six footers at the back, and Tom Davies needs to improve his set pieces. But less of the bad stuff and more of the good stuff please!
Griffiths, what a wally! Hope Middlesex operate a time-based suspension system!
And how did they get a free kick from that handbags?
Also, i see the standard of linos hasn't changed, how he didn't see Jolly being pulled back in the first half i don't know?
