Not sure about everyone else that went today but I really enjoyed that as first friendlies go. Good for everyone to get a run-out. First half I thought we played some decent stuff with a lot going through Ricky Wellard (who appears to have been playing for Salisbury more recently and before that AFC Wimbledon) and one of our new signings Claudiu Hoban who was particularly standout this afternoon. Couple of new faces who I'm not particularly in the know about but strange that Hart/Ruddick weren't involved at all.

Could be any number of reasons and I doubt anything to concern. They have both had their injury problems. We may just be easing them in with more than a week's preseason in attempt to get their bodies attuned before game time. Or it could be something entirely different like holiday at this time of year, a wedding, perhaps they have niggles from the first couple of sessions etc.

As one would expect, U's dominated for much of the 90 mins but went in at ht one down after a well worked goal by the hosts.
Once Marv had profited from a defensive mix up, U's began to find the finish to approach play that had been thwarted in the first half by resilient defending. Marv was robbed off his hat trick when the keeper pulled him down. Not sure why the 'keeper felt he needed to do that when already 4-1. Ref didn't give a red which he is directed to by the FA. I hope for his sake nobody of any consequence was watching.
Good work out for fitness levels etc. Thought Jess, while lacking some technical ability worked very hard and scored a deserved goal. Hoban did some good stuff, some not so good but both these guys showed a lot of promise. Ricky Wellard (of Eastenders previously I assume) did look good on the ball.
Great to see Louis John & Kane Haysman too.
Pleasant afternoon in the Hampshire rain at Winchester's lovely little set up.

Enjoyable day out for what I understand was our earliest PSF since the war. Clearly some lads Dos wanted to have a look at and a handful we were expecting to see not back in the groove yet. Christ, Marv was on fire. That and a notable improvement in our set plays all good positive stuff and a good time had by all. Even the Winchester keeps who really should have been in the bar getting the first round in before the final whistle on any other day but fair play to him, he was enjoying himself as well. Biggest laugh was Marv asking Dos to take the pen ..."I'm on a hat trick..." Dos...."I don't care!!" Cheers to Clive for the run back. Quality slipper as predicted by the Michelin Guide. They even sent out for fresh beef... Nice.

A lovely start to the season. Winchester are a nice little club with nice people and even the rain didnt dampen spirits.
On the pitch, some encouraging early signs against on paper the weakest team we will play in the PSFs. Marv was great in the second half and really swung the game in our direction. Jessy reminds me of when we first had Efan - great pace, good physical presence but a bit lacking in the technical department. That's where a good coach can work wonders, and totally justifies Dos's comments from a few weeks back. Hoban also looked class, but I want to put a word in for Lockwood - his penalty wouldn't have been saved by most top level keepers, never mind Winchesters, and his corners looked great. Can't wait to see a direct free kick from him.
All in all a good day, and nice to have OUR football back.

I thought Hoban was the stand out attacking player In the first half helped by Ricky Wellards passes, also agree that set peices were better. Marvins pace and dribbling was great in the second half.
Is Ricky Wellard a confirmed player for next season ?! He would be a great player in the middle of the park next season!!

Not as yet he isn't but could be a good addition indeed in that central midfield area where we may well need another player. Hoping Dos wants another look at him next week.

While I thought that Wellard was the standout player today, I thought that Marvin Brooks looked good as well.

Yep thought he did ok when he came on couple of good passes and moments - Wellard seemed to possess better quality about him though

Good to get our pre-season programme off the ground with an emphatic win. As others have suggested, with the start of the season over a month away it's too early to say how many of the players out there yesterday will step out at Maidenhead. But plenty of promise there. Reindorf is like a non-League Emile Heskey - he has height, pace and power but needs a bit of refinement. Lockwood and Wellard (if he stays) are great additions to the squad.

Calling Amber Aleman.... I didn't get to Winchester but after playing cricket today we ended up at the Woldingham Beer Festival and I opted for the Kissingate Black Cherry Mild - absolutely delicious !

I don't think anyone has mentioned it but Will Spetch was also missing, is he injured ? He was there. Behind the dug out, just next to David Hughes and James Beattie:
