We certainly haven't gelled yet as a team, we desperately miss Binnsy and Marv doesn't look fully fit. Chelmsford had a lot of the ball and squandered some good opportunities, and its not diffucult to see why after 4 matches they just have the one goal from the penalty spot. We lacked any sort of cohesion going forward and the final ball was pretty bad all afternoon. After Tom's sending off we saw a fabulous defensive display to protect Luke in goal, and getting back to level terms was a big bonus. You have got to take a point if you are down to 10 with no keeper and 1-0 with 30mins to go, although others have said we could well have snatched all 3. Chelmsford will struggle if they don't find a striker, and we are currently playing at mid table standard. We will get better. Thanks for the comments about SUFCtv, they are chuffed at the comments

While I appreciate that Alan Julian was getting match practice with the reserves, I can never understand how sides at this level can go into games without a keeper on the bench. The keeper is always at risk of being injured or sent off. I remember a recent game (with Weston I think) when their keeper went off injured and they had no replacement keeper - and the game completeley swung in our favour.

I remember a recent game (with Weston I think) when their keeper went off injured and they had no replacement keeper - and the game completeley swung in our favour. But it's also very rare for a sub keeper to get on the field of play. On average I'd guess a team's keeper gets injured or sent off about once a season. And very few managers (apart from Louis van Gaal ) make goalkeeping substitutions, as substituting outfield players is more likely to change the course of a game. Not many keepers will want to sit through match after match on the bench. So most managers with small squads take a calculated risk - and give themselves more flexibility - by naming only outfield players as subs. If we'd had a sub keeper yesterday would the result have been different? Impossible to be sure, but the evidence from the way the match developed suggests not.

You could apply the same reasoning to Premier League teams - but you're very unlikely to see them without a keeper on the bench.
