First league look. Boreham Wood just about deserved the win. Thought we looked a disparate bunch of individuals with little or no shape. Work to do for the management and the players. I'm off to try to remember where our midfield of last year's side that finished so strongly have gone?! Poor conditions and early days, let's hope we don't wait until Christmas to start this season . . .

Not sure where to start with this one.First surprise was to see Julian in goal especially as Lovelock has been playing so well.Next i witnessed a right back playing left back who most times, when he went down the wing, had to check to get the ball back on his right foot. We did however have a recognised left back playing in a defensive midfield role & i spent most of the half wondering if he had ever played there before. We were desperately inneffective and i was pleased to see that steps were taken at half time & players were playing in their best positions. We started positively enough & managed to sneak a goal which in most situations would have won us the game.We had a wonderful chance to wrap up the points with Taylor one on one with their keeper but he once again failed to find the net. After that we took Taylor off & replaced him with Shitta. What followed was not good. From where i was standing it looked like Julian completely misjudged a free kick that appeared to go straight in the net. Then twice after that their forwards ran at our defence placing shots ,which to be fair most keepers wouldn't save but our defence should have blocked. We need to be better than this and quickly otherwise mid table at best!

We know from past experience that Boreham Wood are a tough side to break down, and you have to earn any victory against them. It seems we forgot that in the last 15 minutes of today's match.
It was an open game played in very wet conditions. Until the final quarter, defences were on top. BW's no.5 (Josh Hill) was excellent, and our forwards struggled to get shots on target. Jamie Taylor is having no joy in front of goal at the moment. We finally bundled in a slightly fortunate goal from a rare corner and it looked as if we might be on course for victory. But BW soon equalised from a free kick. Then things went from bad to worse in the five minutes of stoppage time when they twice cut through a labouring Sutton back line to add two more goals.
Early days, but we need to improve at both ends of the pitch. We've got four points from four games, the same as at this stage last season when we went on to finish 2nd.

Having not been there today or Saturday I can't comment on how we performed. What I can comment on is what is looking like a disappointing August in terms of results. Disappointing because many of us expect us to be getting maximum points and runaway leaders. To be honest I think that's unrealistic. We've had injuries and this team is still a bit of a work in progress whilst some key elements gel. Only 1 season I can really remember being head and shoulders above the rest and that was our title years. Otherwise we're more often than not prone to weak starts and strong finishes. Have a little faith in what we've got here and banish any talk of 'must win' games. It's cobblers at this stage.

What a miserable day at GGL, if the torrential rain wasn't enough then how about shipping 3 goals in 10 minutes, it was like Dover all over again. Bwood no nonsense side who has been said you have to earn the right to beat and we didn't do that today. We appear to have a Rolls Royce running like a Morris Minor at the moment, its needs a good mechanic.
Going forward we look nearly like scoring then make the wrong decisions, at the back we look fairly decent and tight, but then some very basic errors let everything slip in a blink of an eyelid. The 3 goals we conceded were all very basic errors or just plain poor defending.

This seems to happen most seasons. Despite all the pre-season matches we start the real thing not knowing what our best XI is and signing more players at the last minute.
That's 7 goals we've conceded in 4 games, clearly something wrong there.

First half was a pretty decent open game despite the conditions and Wood like to play a bit of football so it was pretty much nip and tuck in terms of chances. Frustrating that we opened them up nicely on two or three occasions only to lack the final touch. Second half opened up the same although the increasing volume of standing water started to play its part both in terms of the movement of the ball and the challenges sliding in. I thought the ref handled it pretty well to be fair. So, a corner in and the ball is bundled in the net at what looked a crucial time for us as the clock wound down. JT had a cracking chance to make it two shortly after which I suspect would have killed the match off. Then it all went to shite with a vengeance. I really hope I''m wrong that a speculative punt from a free kick sailed into the net without a touch but I don't think I am. Then all hell broke loose as Wood, fired up with self belief, battered us to a pulp. We might have held out through the Lovelock miracle after losing our shape, our confidence and our marbles for thirty minutes against Havant but we weren't going to get let off the hook again as we got exposed and punished twice within a few minutes. Yes, good finishing but how did the scoring opportunities come in the first place? We can forget all the stuff about getting off to a decent start for once. We are where we've been before, playing catch up but we've proved under Dos that we can pick ourselves up and sort ourselves out and that's what we've got to do again. A classic August bank holiday all round. I suppose it's better than throwing deck chairs around on Brighton beach with the mods and rockers. On second thoughts....

You're right. I was counting one of the ones that Havant should have got!
