Shaky in defence in the first half but much better in the second.Julian had to save a penalty to keep us level at half time but he has yet to win me over and i think that Tom should still be between the sticks until his suspension as he has been playing really well!
Jess did really well when he came on as did all the subs. Well done Dos.

Jessy tried hard to miss his chance - very Mark Watson like Kane played well and took his goal well.

Actually, the defender tripped Jessy as he rounded the goalkeeper (should have been booked for that) and Jessy did well to poke the ball home as he tried to stay on his feet.

Both teams looked dodgy at the back, but we eventually prevailed through our superior finishing. This was a classic away performance, conceding territory and trying to hit our opponents on the break. That worked a treat five minutes in when a cross from the returning Dale Binns was turned in by Jamie Taylor for his first goal of the season. But we then had to withstand a long spell of home pressure, witn Alan Julian saving a penalty and Saints finally equalising just before the break. Thankfully Cloughie's header from a corner just after the restart restored our lead and that took some wind out of their sails. Jessy, on as a sub, scuffed home our third and, although Saints got another just before the 90, Kane Haysman's cool finish in stoppage time sealed the points.
This result may be a turning point. But, if we're going to push on, we really have to sort out the defence.

It could have ended up 4-4 but for some terrible finishing from the home side, and of course Alan's superb penalty save. Our last match there also saw St Albans miss a penalty at the same end a game as others have mentioned provided one of the only highlights of that long forgotten campaign. The game very open, a tad too much for me as I believe the midfield is there for a reason. Our approach play was good and Dale wasted no time in reminding us just how important he is to us, and appeared to be able to beat their right back at will. If anything our our final ball was poor or we just didn't have that fox in the box we needed. St Albans had 3 or 4 really good chances and squandered them all, their equaliser came from a defensive mistake allowing a free near post header to make it 1-1 at HT which was about right. Second half Stalebuns missed another chance at the start and U's started to find acres of space in behind the home defence. cracking header to make it 2-1 and i was in the toilet for Jessie's goal which should have seen all 3 pts in the bag. A Rory Delap moment caused chaos in our defence as St Albans stabbed home a somewhat worrying 2nd goal with 5 mins added time to play. I need not have worried as my personal shitty week was ended with JT opening his account for the season. A good win but not perfect

I hope someone can find footage of that penalty from 08. It really was one of the worst penalties I've ever seen.
Anyway a good result and our first away win with a scoreline to negate the damage done by Boreham wood on Monday.
Out of the early favourites only Bromley have come out of the blocks fast (with a Mr Scannell on the scoresheet against Wealdstone yesterday ) and title favourites are just above us in the league by virtue of one more goal.

Had we played (and beaten) Salisbury on that blank Saturday we would quite likely be occupying the final playoff spot at the moment.

A win away from home and a 3 important points.
So what a diffence it makes having Binns back in the starting line up, as mentioned before a cross into the box just after 5 minutes on his right foot, and JT finishes. Just goes to show with a pacy winger you can do all kinds of damage. I think now that we have Binns and Marv back to full fitness, the pace of them both will hopefully start to open up teams at the back.
The news of a new striker excites me. I reckon this may well put JT and the other lads under a little bit of pressure for a starting place.
I'm still however not totally happy with our back line, we do look a little shakey at times. Something needs to be done.Maybe just an idea, Charlie could give the captain band to another , so he can focus on doing what he does best. Good news on Spetch- nearly back to full fitness, and a months loan to get him some game time, this will do him the world of good. I think we need him back asap mind !
Plenty of positives to take away from todays efforts. Hopefully todays win will fill the lads with confidence, and we can begin a run , and get on a bounce of wins !
Frakey normally covers the reff side of things, but for me the ref missed so much ! The St Albans number 8 for example bascially rugby tackling Jessy in the box whilst waiting for the delivery from the corner to come in !
St Albans, a nice little ground that still holds charm and history. Not a bad burger and brew. £15 quid to get in was a little steep though....
Onto Concord...
