Deficiencies in defence allowed Ebbsfleet a comfortable win today. As last season they scored mid half after being content to allow U's to press early on without troubling the keeper. The second goal duly arrived with U's failing to deal with a bouncing ball in the box.
Game over. The third early in the second looked offside but was irrelevant in the sense that Sutton rarely looked like getting back in the game.
Missing four players from last week's availability, two of whom we will not see again and three of who are forwards it has been a tough week for dos.
The usual performance from the languid ref today. He always looks as if he has just got out of bed but certainly had no effect on the result.
Plus points; easy journey both ways and quality programme.
And the play off positions are still well in site. Long way to go still but need to defend so much better.

Didn't defend well and it looked as if we were to play all day we wouldn't score.I'm sure Jess would have caused them problems & it looks as though Dos will have to find us another striker this week. Hopefully we have enough to win our cup tie next week .

The ball rather ran for us for once for our 1st goal - the second was dreadful defending from a long throw that was allowed to bounce through for our forward to sweep home and the 3rd was, I felt, onside - your defence was slow to move out and our forward came on to the ball. When he shot, our 2nd forward was behind the ball and followed it in for a tap in.We could have had 2 or 3 more though, but for some cracking stops from Julian and a couple of others where we failed to hit the target. I only remember 2 shots on target from your team - the one that was kicked off the line in the first half and the free kick that was whipped in under the bar and which was pushed over by our keeper , in the second. Credit to Julian for his saves, and for his response to our fans behind his goal at the end of the game.

Yes the ball did run for Ebsfleet today, but no question about the 3-0 score line which didn't flatter the hosts at all, unlike last season's 2-0 travesty. Our performance lacked energy, pace and ideas from the off, even before they scored we had a lot of possession but absolutely no idea what to do when we hit the final 3rd. Unlike Ebbsfleet who knew exactly what they were going to do if they could break on us, and we had no answer.
Defensively, we were all over the shop every time the ball came into our box, and we certainly couldn't cope with Bricknell or their pace of attack. We seem to play long balls to no one with most just sailing out of play or being eaten up as food and drink by the Fleet's backline.
Dundo, Binns were not at their best today and along with losing, Jess? Taylor and Marv it was just too much of a gap to bridge against a half decent side.
We missed Southam in the middle, but if one player did continue to impress it was Kane who worked tirelessly all afternoon, and was generally involved in anything good we created.
Looking at other results, not a lot of damage, but plenty to repair in our workshop before we can take advantage of that.

No Reindorf, No Southam, No Williams, No Taylor Reindorf currently injured (official site), Southam serving suspension, Williams we don't know his whereabouts and Taylor made his Margate debut from the bench this afternoon.

Ebbsfleet fully deserved their victory this afternoon and but for some great saves from Julian the scoreline could have read a greater defeat for us. We definitely missed big Jessy's presence up front and Southams leadership qualities in the middle of the park - I hope the outlooks better by the time we play in the cup next weekend.
Like Frakey said - a good programme by the Fleet despite being £3!!

Stonebridge Road was hardly the venue to put in our most lacklustre performance of the season so far. Many of us feared the worst when we saw that the squad was missing not just Southam and Jamie T but also Marv and Jessy. And the omens were not promising when our players ran out in discordant white shirts and yellow shorts.
Today's was an error-strewn display from Sutton in which none of our attacking play went quite right. A saving grace was that Ebbsfleet seemed content to play the game at quite a slow pace, so that they only posed an intermittent threat to Alan Julian's goal. They served a warning though when, from their first serious attack, Charlie Sheringham headed against the bar. And it wasn't long before they took the lead. I'm starting to lose count of the number of goals Cloughie has cost us this season (admittedly he has scored a couple), a sliced clearance falling to Anthony Cook who promptly found the net. A few minutes later we failed to deal with a routine throw-in and Bricknell scored a second.
To get anything from the match Sutton now needed to raise their game but simply couldn't manage it. There was barely any improvement in the second half. Our defence dealt with a McMahon free kick from just outside the area but couldn't clear the resulting corner and Bricknell made it 3-0. Dos tried to shake things up with a triple substitution, hauling off two defenders (Evans and Hart) and a forward (Kuffour), but in truth there were more than three Sutton players under-performing. Osborne and Lockwood brought a touch more stability to our back line, but Bignall laboured in vain to find any openings up front. Julian made a fine, one-handed save. In the end we were grateful that Fleet only scored three - more ruthless opponents could have had five or six.
The consolation we can take is that the bookies' pre-season favourites for the title were actually rather ordinary. Ebbsfleet won not because they were particularly good but because we were so poor. On this evidence we have a lot of rebuilding work to do.

I think our defensive frailties got well and truly found out today. The Whitehawk game aside, they've been evident for a while, especially at St Albans and home to Staines, but when you go against a class opposition like Ebbsfleet, your margin for error is a lot smaller. But yet again, errors gifted them the game, which pretty much was over with that 2nd goal. Without being too harsh, I think the only player who probably left the pitch for us thinking he had an ok game was Julien.
I thought the first 15mins we held them back pretty well - most of the play was heading in the right direction, even ifthe final product wasn't top quality. But when the midfield went missing, the defence didn't step up to the plate.
A tough and disappointing day for the side. Certainly hearing some of the shouts on the terrace today, there are views on certain players not performing, but I think today was one of those days where the whole team have to accept collective responsibility on what was a very lacklustre performance against a side we need to measure ourselves to if we have any realistic chance of taking a title this year.
Saying that, we have not lost the title today, missed out on a play off or got relegated today. It's the end of September and we're still in the top half of the table. Don't let a game like today take away the positives of the last couple of weeks.

Like Frakey said - a good programme by the Fleet despite being £3!! I admit I raised an eyebrow at that myself, but thinking about it decided I wouldn't complain about the programme price when it was only a tenner to get in! We were poor yesterday and didn't deserve anything from the game but I was still disappointed by some of the abuse the players have got for it! Yes that performance was well below our usual standards; yes they could have done a lot more and yes of course one needs to let off steam and can't possibly control what one says in public, but I don't believe giving the players a hard time for it is going to help at all. If you went to see your GP and he was totally useless and didn't listen to you or help in any real way, would you call him an overpaid useless tosser? No, of course not, you probably wouldn't even bother putting in a complaint. The players don't decide how much they're paid after all. I felt kind of let down by yesterday's performance and I'll be really fed up if next week looks the same but let's remember we are all in it together. It was only one game after all. Yes, it was against the league favourites but we have the rest of the season to play out yet. Sorry to sound moany, I am trying to be positive but it looks like a whinge!

That was sarcasm! Those who know me well know that my usual response to that old "have to let off steam" excuse for abusing people is that adults should be perfectly capable of controlling their emotions in a public place rather than having tantrums like a two-year-old. And you're right, several footballers have said it makes them lose motivation. They're not machines after all.

If i want to call somebody out for stealing a living out of something they blatantly couldn't give a foo about doing with any degree of competence or desire then I will. I'm not particularly bothered as to whether anybody else shares my opinion on it. I'm voicing my opinion. Yours might be different, that's life.
I appreciate not everyone likes it and I know it's not a positive contribution to anything but so what. Not liking it won't stop people from voicing their opinion at a game at the point where it's wound them up the most and yesterday was spectacularly poor from a lot of players and it's going to raise tensions.

Letting the players know that you are unhappy with their performance doesn't need to go to the levels of 'abuse', it's something that happens and I accept that but it is neither warranted or necessary particularly if it goes to a personal level which it occasionally does do. Given that the abuse is not going to improve their performance, which is of course what we would all be hoping for from the 'support' we are offering, it serves no purpose that could not be fulfilled by genuine support. The players should and I imagine will be giving it their all for the full 90 minutes, if they don't it's something the management would address, so the fans should be doing likewise.

The so what is that you may be demotivating the players and that affects all the supporters. You're entitled to voice your opinion, but if it adversely affects the rest of us, don't be surprised if you're told to shut the **** up.

I don't think personal abuse towards individual players especially when they are on our side is at all right. I admit I will be quite happy to tell a player like Ricky Modeste what I think of him the next time we cross paths, but that's because he hurt one of our own.
When it comes to our team, anyone who knows Dos will know he doesn't carry passengers, and anyone not trying will not be at the club very long. Sometimes you have to put your hands up and say we simply didn't play very well or we were beaten by the better side, not abuse your own players.
There were a few that wanted to get on Jessie's back early on, but in just a few short weeks he has made himself a vital part of the team. Dos doesn't choose too many crap players, and certainly doesn't take on ones who don't put in the work, remember these lads are training 3 days a week, they are not sitting around eating cakes and sandwiches.
I never stop encouraging the team even on 80 mins and 3-0 down, and that is the way it should be for all supporters, or else they cease to be supporters. Anyone who does that might as well buy an oppo scarf and change ends!
