But did the guy tackling Southam have any intention of winning the ball? He seemed to launch himself into the player !

I think there was no surprise that all 4 goals in that game happened in the same goal. The only real winner on Saturday was the pitch. I don't think I've seen a worse one in the league all season.

I think Ciardini went for the challenge, was completely thrown by the back heel and then tried to protect himself (in a somewhat unorthodox manner). He's never done anything remotely like that before when he's played against us. And Glen Southam needed treatment. It was a fair old collision.

I think it was simply down to the pitch, Ciardini tried to break his stride after Glen's back heel on the worst area of the pitch and put his arms up as you naturally do, but his momentum meant the 2 players collided. The penalty didn't look right at the time and watching the video, it must be one of the only spot kicks given for a foul with the standing foot??

The H&W forum suggests that Scanners went over the ball. What are they looking at? Their player actually goes over the ball makes connection with Scanners' foot and as the ball is played, goes over as if fouled. If anything, it was a foul on Scanners. What are these people looking at? We acknowledge that the red was a poor decision so why can't they see the pen was a joke? I really do wonder about our fellow CS fans sometimes.

The giva away as ever is no response from the Havant player in shot, and no body movement from the fans behind the goal before the penalty is given - suggests a shout more in hope than judgement !!!
Watching the Arsenal game last night, by CS standards there should have been at least 4 penalties in that match.

Shocking decisions.Southam didn't do their bloke any favours though , collapsing into a coma like state. Did he recover when the red card was brandished ? No, it took a few minutes as he'd had the breath knocked out of him. Not a sending off though, and not a penalty. You could argue that at the point of contact both players were showing studs, but their fella had actually gone over the ball. So what's to be done? Well its easy... Get rid of the forth official. A community police officer (to calm down the prima donna top four tier managers) with a little knowledge of football, (which would take care of the other duties). This would release some fifty top referees to do what they should be doing, and push the dross we are having to deal with back down the lower leagues to get more experience.

As a postscript...Ciardini was sent off AGAIN for H&W this evening, one of two of their players to see red in the 1-0 defeat to Concord R.
And, according to Football Webpages, the ref was the same one (C Hatzidakis) who sent him off on Saturday (though that may be a mistake).

Depending on what his sending off was for, he could miss between 5 & 7 matches! If I was H&W I would appeal Sat's red though.
