Like us, H&W will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing result on Saturday. They went down 3-0 at Stortford and find themselves bottom of the embryonic league table. Also like us, they've invested in some experienced strikers in the close season, bringing in the giant Marvin Morgan (formerly at Yeading, Aldershot and Plymouth), James Hayter (over 600 League appearances for the likes of Bournemouth, Doncaster and Yeovil) and Matt Paterson (26 goals for Gosport last season). Ten years ago we went to Havant for our second game of the season, also an evening match, and won 1-0 with a goal from 'super' Luke Cornwall, prompting wild celebrations as we topped the table. I'd be satisfied with a point tomorrow.

Not sounding like Simon Downer's had a night to remember, booked for a deliberate handball, now he's gone off injured.

We're better on grass, We're better on gra-ah-arse. We play on 3G but, We're better on grass... There could be more than a grain of truth in that.
Including pre-season, our record is:
Home - W 0 D 1 L 4; Away - W 3 D 1 L 0

On Saturday we hit the post 3 times, tonight we scored twice against a side who have now conceded 5 in 2 matches and scored none. At home in our PSF's we played Crystal Palace XI , bristol rovers, welling and bromley - away we played jersey on a 3G pitch and the bobbins scoring 4 and conceding 1. What a load of tosh

Tonight's was the sort of response I asked for after the Maidstone match. Once again we started strongly, but this time kept the momentum going and turned pressure into goals. It has to be said, though, that Havant hardly lived up to their billing as one of the bookies' favourites for promotion.
After thirty minutes this was starting to look like another hard luck story for Sutton. Most of the game has been played in the home half, Southam had seen a fierce shot tipped over by Ryan Young, and a Fitchett effort had brushed the outside of a post, but it was still 0-0. Then Spence found acres of space on the right and sent over a deep cross that Fitch headed in.
Havant improved a bit after the break and Ross Worner was at last able to demonstrate his goalkeeping abilities, but once our second goal went in there was little doubt about the outcome. Young tipped over another Southam shot and from the skipper's resulting corner Jamie Collins headed us 2-0 ahead. We saw the rest of the game out with relative ease.
It wasn't a completely unblemished evening for Sutton, as McAllister limped off early and Downer went off seemingly with a knock in the second half. And our old friend Adrian Quelch saw fit to present a string of yellow cards to Sutton players.

Good 3 points against a team whom the bookies fancied. We worked a lot harder than them and were quicker to the ball. After we scored ,especially at the start of the second half Havant came at us and showed glimpses of why they could be near the top at the season end.Difficult to put this result into context but a win at Dartford will set us up nicely.

Havant have seemed to be tipped to do well every season for about 10 years now and never amount to anything. They must be the biggest underachievers in Conference South history.

If you want another example of a good team who start slowly, then it's Havant. I feel Havant have enough to be up there near the end of the season, and I think what we saw yesterday was more down to Dos getting his tactics right. I think the real winners last night for us were our two centre halves who neutralised Havant significantly. Without taking anything away from the other end of the pitch, our two goals were slightly gifted to us by some poor Havant defending. But we did take our chances very well indeed, and the result was a right one - on the balance of play we deserved our win.

What a load of tosh I see you noticed my politician's-style twisted use of statistics there!! Well, someone's got to try and be provocative in dear old Billy's absence!
Such an important 3 points last night. As we've discovered on more than one occasion, if you fail to get points on board early on you can get into a bit of a rut and then it becomes well-nigh impossible to mount a serious promotion challenge.
