No Southam from today and a few other players nursing injuries. But goal machine Jamie Collins is back!

2-2. Firstly well done to the ref. Was a good game to watch and he should take a lot of the credit. Let the game flow, yes he didn't give a few niggly free kicks but what a difference it made. Thought that sort of ref was long gone.
Again we played well generally, hard to believe we didn't win despite Concord having a threat on the break. Certainly work to do at the back as teams are getting in behind way too easy. Going forward pretty positive.

Frustrating day, did enough to win really but it just wasn't to be. We have the feel of a team that will win games, but really need to stop giving away poor goals

A tail of heaven and hell once again, I thought we controlled the match and played some superb football, and on 70% of the pitch we are a nailed on playoff side. On the rear 30% we are relegation fodder, conceding 2 yet again and very nearly 3 from terrible defending.
Our goals were good, Spillane won everything in the middle and we were a handful every time we went forward. Young Wright really does look a prospect, and our movement in the top half of the pitch was spot on. We are one big strong experienced CB away from really kicking on. Good to see Kevin back, but we need a week in week out fit, Downer type.
I thought the ref did ok, but very lenient on a lot of shoving, and he may have missed a handball??

Very disappointing not to win a game in which we had the lion's share of scoring opportunities. But perhaps we shouldn't be surprised at the result: all but one of our previous six matches against Concord finished as draws.
We were on top for most of the first half, Dan Wishart shooting just over in the first few minutes then Craig McAllister seeing his header come down off the underside of the bar with the ball then being scrambled clear. The big man did finally score his first Sutton goal just before half-time, rolling the ball into the corner of the net after being played in by Stuart Fleetwood.
In the second half Dan Spence registered his first goal for us with a long-range daisy-cutter that the visiting keeper won't be happy at letting in. But before and after that Concord themselves scored: two tidy finishes but I think those were the first two shots they'd had on target. Sutton then piled on the pressure, with Jamie Collins seeing his header fingertipped round the post, and subs Tom Bolarinwa and Tommy Wright both causing problems for the Concord defence, but the winning goal wouldn't come. Indeed Concord might have won the game in the dying minutes as Ross Worner had to stretch awkwardly to turn a high ball out for a corner.
With all but three of the other matches in our division ending as draws, we edge up to 12th in the table with ten points. To put that in a bit of context, after the same number of games last season we were 6th with fourteen points. But that was as good as it got in 14/15. This season we should do better than finish 15th.

Four goals in one match with Concord represents a goal bonanza seeing as there had been just three in six matches against them before today.
Unfortunately, we contrived to present them with both their goals. Giving the ball away on the half way line for the first and then a lack communication between 'keeper and defender for the second. Concord did look half decent on the break and defended very well but U's made enough chances to score to win. We dominated the first half and Craig's goal right on ht was no more than the team's efforts deserved.
Second half starts and the goal is pegged back early on. The ball was given away on the half way line and from that point, Concord put together their best move of the match to fashion the equaliser.
Spence retrieved the situation with a well placed low shot only for the second equaliser to cancel that out. One of Ross or Dean should have taken control of that situation but allowed their fella to nip in and score.
After that we again had the best of the play with the addition of Tom B causing Concord no end of problems. Jamie C had the best opportunity but probably didn't get enough purchase on his header allowing the visiting 'keeper to save and then Dundo forced a fine save with a fierce strike from the edge of the box.
It was not to be today but over the 90, I reckon we played better than last Saturday against a better team too. Concord appeared set up for a point so will be happy with that return.
As for the ref, he was without doubt the best we've had in a very long time and it was good to get through the game without a yellow card. He could have brought one out a couple of times but he didn't and as a team U's were far less reckless with their challenges than in recent times. One thing I would say was his two assistants seemed only to be there for offsides and throwings not necessarily their fault, mind.

I think Dos summed up the game well in his interview.Need to work on defensive issues. Both fullbacks too far forward at the same time.

Only 8 clean sheets from 40 last season, only 1 from 8 so far this season. Not sure what the solution is, but the problem's pretty clear!

Yup, a quick glance at the table confirms where our problems lie. It's not in attack as I feared at the start of the season: our 14 goal tally stands up well against the top two in the table, with Bath also on 14 and Ebbsfleet (with a game in hand) on 13. Yet we've conceded 13, while Bath and Ebbsfleet have each let in 4. No surprise then that we're only mid-table!

Wow! Thanks for the analysis AA. On face value seems we need a change in tactics, but on the other hand are the goals for routing via the advanced full backs?

Just found out this was my 1,500th Sutton game. Even more annoying that we didn't get all the points!
