I think Dos got asked something similar in his post-match interview on Saturday and he said the Maidstone victory.
As soon as I saw the Ebbsfleet result at Weston (lost 2-1) I was confident we'd go on to win the title.
How about you lot?

I was confident in January (as I said on this board time and time again) - but I thought it was at the point where the league was in our hands when we had 4 games in hand and were 12 points behind. I just couldn't see this team losing. That continued to happen throughout February and March, and getting results at Wealdstone and Gosport where we'd struggled before made me convinced it was our season.

I couldn't feel confident until we'd actually beaten Ebbsfleet at GGL (especially with the threat of a three-point deduction hanging over us), but it was the results over the Easter weekend that convinced me that we had more than an outside chance of the title. My memory of that trip to Truro now has a rosy glow!

I said before Christmas that we'd win the league but did I really believe what I was saying? Probably not but I felt we had the best team in the league.
As Andy said as the run went on we didn't look like losing and we were so good away from home I felt we could win every game and we nearly did. I think after Truro I was pretty certain we would win the league. Truro hadn't lost at home since August and we played them off the park.
I wasn't worried about Maidstone in the slightest until Kev got sent off!!after having a quick word with Skip who was so confident that we would win the league I had no doubts at all. It was just a matter of when and I did say the 23rd!!

We will not win the league and I confidently predicted that quite some time ago in front of a number of witnesses (just ask AB). We would have to go on a 25 match unbeaten run, play some breath taking football and beat our two closest rivals. It just wouldn't happen outside of Roy of the Rovers. What next, Leicester challenging for the Premiership? Isn't football great?

Maidstone was when I thought we had a good chance. Come up short there and I think we would have struggled. As it turns out we excelled both there and going forwards under pressure. We're 6 wins in a row and 9 from 10 and those sorts of runs don't happen often, especially at the business end.

Whilst Maidstone was probably the day I thought we'd really overhaul 'Fleet, I had a sneaking feeling after Wealdstone away and even more so after Truro. 2 down at home to Whitehawk and that sneaking feeling had, well, sneaked off but by full-time it was back on.
As for Dos, I have to recall the conversation in the hotel bar on Jersey. He asked the players who would win the league. Most opted for 'Fleet (Craig McAllister reminded me on Sat night that he had said Sutton) and Dos went, not surprisingly, for us.
With just two wins from the first eight, including a good seeing to by Whitehawk, Dos's prediction looked a distant fantasy but he tweaked the squad and Ross W saved two pens as U's beat Gosport. We lost at Ebbsfleet the next match won just two out of the next five, ending with the defeat to Hayes & Y. The title looked miles away but the team just kept on avoiding defeat and winning far more than drawing matches.
So we arrived to last Saturday. I have just had a calamitous disaster with my porch door that is going to mean some financial outlay for a repair to the plastic above it. Not great when your house is on the market and buyers keep letting you down for various reasons. Still, we won the league and I'm still smiling... just!

I thundered out of Cyrille Regis' ground, drove home like an idiot, thinking 'we aren't even going to make the playoffs'. I know we had to field a weakened team against a very good Cyrille side, and I should have had more faith (that's not your Faith, Dan), but....

To answer the actual question though, the Truro result made me believe again, and Maidstone convinced me we were invincible.

To be honest I only thought we'd won the league when the FA charge was resolved without a points deduction. Would have been hard to take if we had failed on a technicality as I believe that this Sutton team has performed exceptionally since November last year - great team spirit. The wins at Maidstone and Truro really gave us hope and whilst both Maidstone and Ebbsfleet wobbled our boys took full advantage. Let's hope for more of the same next year and that Dos is able to keep this squad together.
