Thank you to all 164 people involved in the 2018/19 version of "Strikers are Key" and a warm welcome to three new syndicates for the new season. All 50 balls have now been sold. The first two draws of the new season will take place in the Players' Bar at 5:35pm after the match v Salford this coming Saturday. Remember £200 will be added to the safe after each home League match with an additional £50 added for each League goal scored by the nominated strikers who this season are Messrs Lafayette, Wright, Bolarinwa, Drinan and Ayunga. Looking forward to firing up the old accordion See you there!

It was a particularly ebullient and high-spirited Players' Bar which greeted the first two Strikers are Key draws of the new season after the tremendous 2-1 victory against Salford City!
We are grateful to celebrity guest Jeremy Vine, a great sport, who was making his first ever visit down the Lane, and quickly appreciated the happy mood in the room after such an exhilarating afternoon and conducted the two draws in a similarly fun fashion.
Here are the two results:
Draw 1 in respect of the match v Eastleigh - ball 44 was pulled out by Jeremy, owned by the syndicate "Last of the Summer Whine", comprising Mark Frake, Mark Kidd, Chris Vagg and Bob Budd. Sadly Kiddo was unable to pick out the right key, having to make do with the £50 consolation prize as a consequence.
Draw 2 following the Salford match - ball 27 came out of the velvet bag for the very first time, owned by club chairman, Bruce Elliott. He then went on to choose the right key (eventually), scooping the £450 booty along the way and then delighted the assembly by putting a big chunk of his winnings behind the bar to enable the Sutton faithful to continue their celebrations, after a terrific afternoon, well into Saturday evening!
Draw 3 is back in two weeks' time after the match v AFC Fylde. Can't wait!

It was the turn of ball 28 to emerge from the Strikers are Key purple velvet bag after Saturday's entertaining goalless draw v AFC Fylde.
Ball 28, owned by the syndicate "Woodmansterne Massive" , comprising Carl Moynehan, Dave Pryor and Tom and Dick Stoker was making only its second-ever appearance (in 119 attempts); following goals by Ross Lafayette and Tommy Wright the week before at Solihull, the prize fund amounted to £300.
Carl strode purposefully on to the Strikers are Key stage and deliberated for some time over which key to withdraw from the "green bag" . Sadly his efforts proved to be in vain as the key chosen was one of the three "duds" thereby winning his syndicate the £50 consolation prize and meaning that a minimum of £500 is carried forward to next week's draw after the match v FC Halifax Town.
See you there:)

Ball 40, owned by Duncan Muller's syndicate , SUFC " Ladies are Key" came out of the purple velvet bag in Strikers are Key draw 4 of the season, made in the Players' Bar after the 1-1 draw v FC Halifax Town.
Vanarama National League "Volunteer of the Year 2017/18", Tony Henderson-Smith, stepped aboard the SAK Express to represent the ladies, but alas to no avail. He was unable to choose the correct key and the syndicate had to make do with the £50 consolation prize.
It all means that a minimum of £750 will be up for grabs in the next (double) draw which will be made on Sat 22nd Sept after the match v Wrexham.
See you then!

It really was a "red letter day" down the Lane today, on and off the pitch!
After a tremendous 3-0 victory against high-flying Wrexham, the fun continued in the Players' Bar after the match as the Strikers are Key safe yielded its contents not just once but on two occasions!
After a pretty parsimonious start to the season, the safe rather got in the party mood prevailing in the bar after such a good win, firstly giving up £850 in respect of draw 5 (Boreham Wood) to the owners of ball 16, the " Lucky Striker" syndicate, comprising Bob and Stuart Hasker, Stewart Howe and Tony Cove. Congratulations to them.
Then, lo and behold, ball 1 made its first ever SAK appearance in draw 6 (Wrexham) and Tommy Wright stepped forward to chose the right key on behalf of the team's Strikers, winning them £250 along the way.
A red letter day indeed!

After what seems like an age, we’ve got a home Saturday League game coming up which means........
......a TRIPLE STRIKERS ARE KEY DRAW
Now; it’s dead easy
There are only a few scenarios....
- Dover £200 ; if won, Chesterfield £350; if won Dagenham £200 plus goals - Dover £200; if won Chesterfield £350; if not won Dagenham £550 plus goals - Dover £200 ; if not won Chesterfield £550; if not won Dagenham £750 plus goals - Dover £200; if not won Chesterfield £550; if won Dagenham £200 plus goals - Probably at least one other permutation.....
Confused? You will be! ( cf “Soap” -- anyone remember?)
This could get chaotic - see you Sat 5:30 pm in the Players’ Bar after you’ve all bought your Slough Town tickets

It’s been six long weeks but the Strikers are Key wagon rolled back into town in quite bizarre style after yesterday’s hard-earned 1-0 victory against Dagenham and Redbridge. It was an ebullient Players’ Bar which greeted the often chaotic unveiling of the winning syndicates in the three draws which took place. Those draws related to the recent evening home League matches played v Dover Athletic and Chesterfield plus, of course, that in respect of the game with our visitors from Essex yesterday. All three draws also had a distinctly European flavour as each was conducted by very first time visitors to Gander Green Lane from Holland, Greece and the Republic of Ireland! Here were the results: Draw 7 - Dover Athletic - ball 11 owned by Phil White and his Autotec Workshop syndicate emerged from the purple velvet bag. Sadly a combination of Phil and Leo from Rotterdam, who conducted this draw, were unable to choose the right key and Phil had to make do with the £50 consolation prize Draw 8 - Chesterfield - the prize fund swelled to £550 for this one and Leonardo, our visitor from Athens, pulled out ball 9 owned by “The Old Ds”, Keith Dodwell and Peter Dillon. Neither of the Ds were present but Dos was, and the Manager’s Midas touch was in evidence once more as he duly selected the right key on Keith’s and Pete’s behalf, scooping them the jackpot along the way. Congratulations to them! Draw 9 - Dagenham and Redbridge ; this time Kelly, first time visitor from Kerry, plucked ball 43 from the purple velvet bag, owned by the “Hooray” syndicate comprising Rich Smith, Jamie Collins and Dean, Mark and Nicky Beckwith. Having left the building just ten minutes earlier, it was appropriate that fellow-centre half Charlie Clough, complete with battle scars, should try his luck on the syndicate’s behalf. Sadly no luck; fellas, Cloughy has your £50 consolation prize! We take a breath and move on to draw 10 which will be held in three weeks’ time after the match v Maidenhead on 24th November. Whatever next? See you all then for the next chapter ....

Ball 13, owned by the syndicate “Lucky 13s”, comprising Mark Donohue, Sarah Aitchison, Andy K, Mark Bravery and Brett Munslow, made its first appearance of the season in today’s Strikers are Key draw which was made in the Players’ Bar after the match against Maidenhead United.
Sadly the key selected was not the one to open the safe’s £450 contents and the quintet had to make do with the £50 consolation prize.
On we go to the home game v Solihull Moors on 8 Dec when a minimum of £650 will be up for grabs.
See you then!
PS Spare a thought for the owners of ball numbers 34 and 38 ; the only two to NEVER have been pulled out of the SAK bag...in 126 attempts! Surely their luck has to change soon? The most prolific so far? Ball 9 with six appearances...

The Strikers are Key safe has not embraced the festive season in recent weeks, displaying its parsimonious trait for the third draw in a row after yesterday’s entertaining 2-2 draw with Solihull Moors. Following ball 13s fruitless attempt last time out ( the syndicate “Lucky 13s”, comprising Mark Donohue, Sarah Aitchison, Andy K, Mark Bravery and Brett Munslow ) , the same fate befell the owners of the top of the shop ball 50, Mark Kidd and Graham Starns, who also had to make do with the £50 consolation prize as a consequence of not picking the correct key. The safe’s recent frugal nature means, of course, that the coffers are swelling - a minimum of £900 will now be available in the Boxing Day Draw , at which the first of two 2019/20 season tickets can also be won in the first “Festive Double Draw” - the second one takes place after the match v Aldershot three days later. Merry Christmas one and all

Happy Boxing Day everyone!
Don’t forget it’s the first of TWO Festive double draws today after the game v Bromley.
The regular SAK draw (worth a minimum of £900 if the safe is opened) will be preceded by a draw for a 2019/20 Season Ticket.
And it all happens again on Saturday after the match v Aldershot!
Bring it on.

Skipper Jamie Collins enjoyed a very successful Boxing Day, leading the team to victory against Bromley and scoring the winning goal in the process; then being involved in BOTH Strikers are Key draws which took place after the match!
The first of two Festive double draws saw ball 2 emerge from the purple velvet bag - a 2019/20 Season Ticket was the prize for “ The Defenders” led by JC. We shall await his verdict on where that season ticket will go!
Then ball 43 emerged for the second time in four draws owned by the syndicate “ Hooray” comprising Rich Smith, JC and Dean, Mark and Nicky Beckwith. In their absence Malcolm Boyle stepped forward on their behalf and duly selected the right key for the syndicate members winning them £900 along the way, the safe obviously joining in the Christmas celebratory mood after three consecutive displays of parsimony! Congratulations to them!
Don’t worry fellas, we wrestled the envelope away from Malcolm on his way to the bar and have kept it safe to pass on to you on Saturday!
We go again after the match v Aldershot on Saturday. See you there!

The mood in the Players’ Bar, which was packed to the rafters after U’s third festive win in a row, was a jubilant one after yesterday’s 2-1 win v Aldershot Town.
It was also the second of two Christmas Strikers are Key draws which were conducted before a loud and vocal crowd in full celebration mode!
The first draw of the day, for a 2019/20 Season Ticket, was won by Tony Marsh ( Bobby’s M8s) whose ball number 5 was the first to be picked.
It was then second time lucky for the owners of the “ Lucky 13” syndicate - Mark Donohue, Sarah Aitchison, Andy K, Mark Bravery and Brett Munslow. Having had their ball 13 pulled out of the purple velvet bag in draw 10, lightning struck twice yesterday and this time Mark managed to open the safe which was obviously also in benevolent and celebratory mood, doubtless brought on by nine points earned from three Festive fixtures! The syndicate earned an extra £50 after Brett Williams’ debut goal v the Shots bringing their winnings up to £250. Congratulations to them!
On we go to draw 14 after the match v Harrogate next week...and don’t forget the Storeroom Shirt Auction at 2:35pm before the match. So much going on!
Happy New Year everyone!

It was another packed, happy and boisterous Players’ Bar which greeted the fourteenth Strikers are Key draw of the 2018/19 season, made after the exhilarating 2-1 win against Harrogate Town. Ball number 3 emerged from the purple velvet bag, owned by the syndicate “ Another Goal Missed” comprising Neil Robinson, Paul Lane, Russell Miller, David Smart and Nick Taylor.
Sadly the safe didn’t extend its recent benevolent behaviour; Paul stepped forward onto the SAK stage to try to win its contents, boosted by an additional £50 following Jonah Ayunga’s terrific header yesterday, but was unable to choose the right key and the syndicate had to make do with the £50 consolation prize instead.
It all means a minimum of £450 will be carried forward to the next draw, to be made after the match v Ebbsfleet
It all means Sat 26th Jan will be another busy day!
2:35pm - Storeroom Shirt Auction - the 2018/19 home shirt of club colossus, Simon Downer (e mail advance bids to Adrian.barry@suttonunited.net if you can’t make that time) 5:35pm - Strikers are Key draw 15
Until then!
