Its a good point in the scheme of things, the travailing, the cup match on Tuesday, and against a side that could have taken our 7th position from us. My concern is still the shot / goal conversion rate, just 2 goals in 4 matches, and in that time we must have had 30-40 chances? I notice a lot of shots blocked or deflected away etc. I know its fine margins but with just a goal or 2 more we would be right on the leaders tails, or maybe I am just greedy

Decent point on reflection been such a demanding and busy schedule and even travelling up and back all in a day yesterday takes its toll.
We are in amongst the last couple of spots in the play off pack. Either need Drinan to come good or to bring in a poacher to cement one of those spots but I hope I'm mistaken.
Well done the U's and fair play to the Gateshead 37 that travelled I salute you.

We dodged a bullet having Ross in goal. I had visions of Chris Vagg between the sticks on Tuesday!
Well done all. A well-earned point.

I managed to tie in an overdue visit to Newcastle so made a rare long away trip, in fact it beat torquay as my longest!
Decent game of football, two solid sides who tried to play and by and large cancelled each other out. Heed had the better of the first and we largely dominated the second without creating much. Taylor was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch, Worner looked very assured when called upon - another clean sheet on TUE and it would be hard to drop him. His kicking has improved and his handling was perfect.
Defensively we were decent, only disappointing thing was poor performances from bola and wish in the wide areas and was no surprise to see them both hauled off.
Play like that on TUE and we will be in the 2nd round for sure

I drove to Aberdeen and back in the past two weeks and having experienced the long sections of roadworks I recommend those going by car avoid them. Use M40 north from London to the Warwick exit then A69 to Leicester, briefly north on M1 to next exit and A46 to Newark, then A1 north. A69 and A46 are fast straight dual carriageways with no roadworks. I risked the M1 yesterday, fortunately the 620 mile return journey went without any holdups. It’s unlikely I will be that fortunate on Tuesday!

You certainly won't if you try to get there up the M1...

I travelled with the team/directors, Paul L, Mark F & Bob (hope I haven’t missed anyone) yesterday on the train + coach and to witness the spirit amongst the management and the playing staff reflects what they achieve on the pitch. It’s a special time with Sutton United and it’s a real pleasure to be a part of it as a supporter.
Slough prediction and line up to follow when someone generates the thread..

I don't know who counted 37 away fans, I would say easily 60 there if not more, great travelling support as usual

I counted 56 fans although some may have got guest passes so perhaps don't count.
Both sides cancelled each other out. We were certainly better in the second half having not mustered a shot at goal in the first half. Plenty of effort and good work by the defence and Josh Taylor.
Certainly the night out in Newcastle was better than the football!
Looking forward to Tuesday and a good performance from the lads.

I have just had a nice email from the Safety Officer at Gateshead, thanking the 55 Sutton supporters who went to the game for their exemplary behaviour.

Long train journey, long way, long day.
That's Gateshead and Barrow out the way - unless a future cup draw is unkind.
A goal less draw that was never boring even if it didn't illuminate. Gateshead better first half and U's much the more likely the second. Experimenting with Cloughie up front, first half the balls up to him either didn't reach or were not on target. The second half that improved as did U's midfield who started getting the edge of their counterparts.
Ross W had one important save to make and showed good handling. It would appear we may have a Clemence/Shilton conundrum on our hands. For you youngsters that's an old England goalkeeper reference. And by the way, it is a good conundrum.
The nlp gave skip motm and I would have gone with that, although any of U's back four and indeed the home one could have made a legitimate claim to that accolade.
This was a solid U's performance on the back of a four hour train journey which is hardly ideal preparation for a NL fixture but as usual this squad got on with it, never complained and gave the travelling 50 odd a decent performance. And they all showed their appreciation for that support too at the end.
It was good to see Dundo back in the right colour shirt too.
Ref did ok. Some dodgy corner/goal kick and throw-in decisions but he did his upmost to keep his cards in his pockets and the four he did show were all warranted and late in the match.
Short post from me as I don't mind admitting yesterday's trip too more out of me than most of them have. Having said that, god knows what some of the group of AFCW fans on the train back were like; I had to give one of them a tutorial in how to close the toilet door - one of the push button jobs - and i opted for the old style one along the corridor as I wasn't sure the fella would work out how to get out. Still, I suppose after an 8th consecutive league defeat you need something to temporarily ward of the abject depression that record must bring on.
Onto the FA Cup, and a cold night in Slough awaits.

Was it one of these sort of games ?Billy: Imagine a brilliant game of football that had you hooked from start to finish because both sides played some great football and it could have gone either way so it kept both sets of fans excited. Let's say a 4-3. Now imagine that exact same game except none of those 7 goals actually crossed the line. That's the only difference. The football was just as good...but so were the goalkeepers! It's been a bit like that for us. Some really exciting football. Just not with actual goals. I know you love a high scoring match, but a game of football can be great without goals too! You may disagree but I had a great time watching these goalless games.

MARK: Enjoyed the Clemence/Shilton analogy. I totally agree - it’s a toss of the coin between Butler/Worner depends on who you personally favour.

I have just had a nice email from the Safety Officer at Gateshead, thanking the 55 Sutton supporters who went to the game for their exemplary behaviour. Nice to hear. So the 18 supporters (55 less 37 announced) that did not pass through the turnstiles did not climb over the fence. Perhaps the disappointing sub 1000 crowd was also a Taxman Total.

Not this time Billy I'm afraid. Not a classic. They can't all be after all. You notice that if you don't have a weird fixation about goalless draws and boring matches
