On to the match. We played well enough first half without hitting the heights against a very poor Bromley team.Second half Bromley came out a different team and took the game to us with maximum reward. Whilst i appreciate that we are trying to change the style of our football it was disappointing how easily we surrendered the game.
Now what stood out for me was two things.
1 . Clough is not a centre forward or target man. On the occasions he did win a header it fell to the opposition and i only counted once in the whole game that it was flicked on to another Sutton player. Not for lack of trying but he is a centre back who can be useful at corners or in the last 10 minutes of a game we are chasing.
2. Butler does not command his area and is susceptible to high balls into the box due to his lack of height.I know its a done deal but i believe we have let our best keeper out on loan and probably said farewell to him for good as he is probably out of contract at the end of the season.

I knew our goose was cooked at half time as a 1-0 lead with the force of the wind behind us just wasn’t enough. It felt like Slough away ...lots of possession, lots of pretty patters, but not enough forceful action in making their keeper work. We just seem to lose concentration when on top - instead iof putting it to bed we drift...and it comes back to bite us. And as for “fans” smashing up the toilets...despicable. Flares in our confined end was bad enough earlier this season. This is totally out of order

A small minority of our fans have not covered themselves in glory in 2018 away from home. Funny how these things happen at away gamed that are easy and cheap enough to get to. This isn't an isolated incident.

I'm thankful that I didn't need to use the bogs in the second half. The gents' were already in a shoddy state at half-time, but that was no excuse for trashing them.
As for the football, we set up with a midfield diamond (Davis, Eastmond, Cadogan, Taylor) behind Cloughie and Brandon T-A. This was the latest Sutton match in the last few weeks to be played in wet and windy conditions, each side having the benefit of the wind for 45 minutes. Most of these games ended as draws. This one didn't.
We had the wind behind us in the first half, and that may have helped Brandon's long-range volley sail into the net, but it was still an excellent debut goal. Unfortunately, a single-goal advantage proved insufficient. Bromley were noticeably more threatening once they had the wind, although our defence managed to thwart them from open play, as Eastmond, Collins and Bennett all made fine last-ditch tackles. It was set pieces that were our undoing, Bromley scoring twice in two minutes with free headers, the first from a corner and the second from a free kick. We offered little at the other end, and the need for an accomplished striker has re-surfaced.
So for the first time since 2014/15 we exit the Trophy in the first round. We now have a blank Saturday on 12 January.
A final word about certain of our supporters, who seem to have acquired something of a reputation. There was a police escort back to Bromley South station, and the Wetherspoon pub opposite was not admitting football supporters after the game (though I managed to get in). After the recent incidents at Maidstone and Wealdstone, the club's image may have become rather tarnished.

I am going to sound boring but no Cloughie is not a front man for me, but he is one of the best CB in the National league. We have conceded 8 in 4 now, and I honestly think that if Charlie was playing CB for those 4, we would have conceded less, but I am not sure I can say we would have scored less.

Wonder if we’ll look at getting a friendly on the 12th against some lower level opposition. Must be some NLS or Bostik teams with a free weekend too. Need that winning feeling back and might be a good opportunity to get our strikers scoring

I was one of the first few into the ground and the toilets already had plastic bits and paper towels all over the place, looked like the remains of a bin or something, and then I was one of the last people back from HT. Literally the last I think. The toilets looked no different at that point except for being a bit grubbier.
Can someone define “trashed” please?
Quite happy to back this up for the club if Bromley come asking for recompense, but unless someone has been back and ripped porcelain off walls the place looked the same from 2.15pm to the second half.
Sounds like a load of sensationalised rubbish to me and I don’t think SUFC supporters have done this. I’d be rather dismayed if I am indeed proven wrong.

Sounds like a load of sensationalised rubbish to me and I don’t think SUFC supporters have done this. I’d be rather dismayed if I am indeed proven wrong. About half way through the 2nd half I went to the loo to be told by some Bromley officials they are out of action as "they had been trashed". 3 of their safety officers were outside the loos discussing further and i was asked by them if i had any idea who could have done it. Also a female supporter was also in the loos after their 2nd goal went in and heard it being trashed. Having been prevented from using the loos, I can't say definitively what defines "trashed" but unless you feel that 3 Bromley stewards have colluded to falsify this, then I'm happy to take that on face value. Not saying the place was a palace to start with but both of those facts point more to the fact that it's less likely to be sensationalist rubbish and possibly you may be dismayed.

I went in the toilet at the end of the match. There were toilet rolls strewn all over the floor near the urinals and toilet rolls had been dumped into the toilets themselves.

It's a pity the perpetrator wasn’t caught in the act. Deserves a lifetime ban in my opinion.
What it might mean now is that the two Bromley matches over the holiday period may need extra stewarding. With the game on New Year’s Day being shown on BT Sport, let’s hope the club doesn’t get embarrassed on national television.

I've never understood the attraction in paying money not to watch the football, but to engage with the opposition "fans" and rattle fences etc. Why not watch the game, and maybe "support" the team?
It's getting a bit embarrassing after Maidstone, Wealdstone and now this. Dos loves the travelling fans and often mentions them in his reports, especially after long trips such as Barrow and Fylde. I can't imagine he, or the team, want to be associated with some of the behaviours we witnessed yesterday.
Some of us love to travel, and to be able to watch both home and away games in a friendly environment and without segregation. As well as the game itself it is an opportunity to talk with fans from opposition clubs when our shared hobby of "non-league football" and love for the game, as well as our respective clubs, is evident. Those opportunities are sadly getting less frequent, and with continued inappropriate behaviour they will sadly disappear altogether in the near future I fear.

OK so "trashed" constitutes bog roll in the toilets and on the floor? Not much different than the state of them when we turned up so I'd question if there were even cleaned from the last lot of away support. Facts please!
I've followed this club for a long time and it never ceases to amaze me how we actually create an awful lot of the noise around our own supporters. I don't care if that is taken badly in here but facts aren't shared and then people can have a good old whinge about the youth, unknown supporters, etc etc etc. Our lot aren't that bad at all, they were respectful of one of our supporters took offence at a chant in the ground yesterday and they stopped. When we compare to others I've seen and heard this season (Orient spitting at NB as one example), we should have a lot to encourage rather than dismiss as yobbish behaviour (or whatever you want to call it). Other clubs read this forum and take a perception of our fans from it so I think we should be careful of what we say if the facts aren't known.
As I said I know my opinion won't be received well by some, i'm not trolling and you take this as you wish but I am fed up at the double standards of some in here and at the games. The club is in an amazing position, one many of us could only have dreamed of a decade ago, but theres always some reason or another for a moan and frankly I find that more detrimental to the club than a bit of bog roll being thrown about. As Dos stated it even affects the players ...a bit of positivity is what we need at the moment!

It was disappointing yesterday after a very good first 45 minutes with a brilliant strike from Brandon. He really does look a good player. We seemed to lose momentum when Bradley went off injured. Even from 50 yards away i could see the long stud marks down his leg. I hope he recovers quickly.
After their keeper had been booked he committed a blatant hand ball when rolling the ball out to a player. An easy decision for the awful linesman to make but he chose to ignore it.
Although we didn't play well in the second half we had a blatant penalty turned down. I understand the Bromley player concerned bought Skip a beer in the bar afterwards and apologised.
As for the other stuff the toilets were a mess before the game and those paper towel holders do tend to fall apart very easily. Whether they were made worse during the second half I guess the club will have to wait and see the photographs. Certainly spending most of the game throwing insults at apposing supporters doesn't help, they're not even our rivals, and it stopped quite a few of us from having a beer in Bromley, so thanks for that.
Also Bromley come to us on Boxing Day and we go back there on NYD so there could be further problems. I will say though that the Police were present throughout and I don't believe there were any ejections or arrests from either side so I guess there was just banter. It just stopped me going to a bar when all i wanted to do is have a beer and get dry
