With no game last weekend for Sutton - it seems an age since that late late winner against Ebbsfleet a fortnight ago. Tomorrow sees us back on the road as we make the relatively short trip into norrrf London territory and Barnet whose impressive FA Cup exploits ended at Brentford on Tuesday.
Buoyed by yesterday’s player signings it appears we’ll travel tomorrow with a strong squad to choose from including both Collins and Eastmond returning from injuries. Wonder who’s going to be unlucky to miss out on the 16 🤔.
A new ground for me tomorrow and I suspect most of the Sutton contingent so looking forward to checking out The Hive - I’m not sure if it’s near their past site Underhill..

I saw on Barnets forum we haven’t played them since the 1990/91 season, though I vaguely remember a pre-season friendly a few years back at GGL (lost 4-2 I think).

I remember playing them on the last day of the season in 1989 perhaps on the last day of the season and beat them 5-1. Lenny was in with a shout for that seasons top scorer and remember seeing him take a penalty for the only time. I don't think we've beat Barnet since then - the next two seasons they finished 2nd and 1st - in fact they won the Conference the same season as our first relegation.

After Lennie’s penalty, Efan scored a hat-trick. I have a match report with the headline ‘Efan’s the flame to fire up U’s’ written by Julie Tunney. Anybody remember Julie Tunney? She was the local reporter who used to walk round the ground in a short black skirt and stockings! She’s done alright for herself - her twitter account states that she’s now the sports sub-editor and web editor for the Guardian and Observer newspapers (and her photo suggests that she still likes wearing black!). I wonder if she remembers reporting on our matches back then. I'd like to think so.

You should drop her a tweet and ask her! That was a name I've not heard in years.

Back to the game, and it's worth noting we've not won away since before Xmas and looking further back you have to look at October since we won away from home previously - even with some great performances at Fylde etc, our recent away form isn't fantastic, but I just have a feeling the elements are in place for us to improve on that tomorrow.

I do believe that was Barry Williams's last game in charge. Remember it well as a friend of mine was in goal for us.

Stan Flashman’s son was in goal for Barnet if I remember rightly?

We keep churning out the results. Great effort. Now an opportunity with back to back home games. Important minutes too for players still bedding in - Dobson, Toure, Deacon, Williams plus good match fitness for the Skip. We should get better up top as we head towards the back end of the season.

Can we please leave someone up front when we are defending.Otherwise every time we clear the ball it comes straight back. Surprised when Bailey went off.Not sure if it was tactical but he had an excellent game.
