On Saturday, the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup took place where clubs in the tier immediately below us entered the competition. I noted some interesting results as well as a good amount of upsets. The draw for the 3rd qualifying round takes place this lunchtime with a lot of familiar faces to us from years gone by in the hat and some not so familiar ones.
Of the local teams Carshalton won 1-0 at Harrow Borough, Tooting & Mitcham (who these days play in the Isthmian League South Central Division) dumped out well-backed Dorking Wanderers and Corinthian Casuals (sitting bottom of the pile in the Isthmian Premier) upset Chelmsford 2-0. Kingstonian were due to play Grays Athletic yesterday but Grays have recently been removed from the competition. No one knows what’s happening there.
Other National South sides to exit the competition at the first hurdle this weekend included Braintree (at Enfield T), Hemel Hempstead (at Beaconsfield - who beat our tenants in the previous round), McKimms Tonbridge, Concord who lost to Margate (where Jay Saunders is these days) and Hungerford (at Poole). Impressively, a couple of Step 9 sides remain in the competition (Tavistock, Hadley and one of Walthamstow/Abbey Rangers).
Of course this doesn’t have too much bearing on us at the moment but we do enter at the 4th qualifying stage in about a months time. I still think we’re absolutely nailed on to draw Havant!!

The draw is live on Talksport 2 at around 1.30 p.m.
There's been an update on the Kingstonian situation: Grays have decided not to appeal, which means March Town have been reinstated. K's will be playing March Town on Wednesday.

Quick quiz question: ten years ago this week (26 Sept 2009) we enjoyed a 3-0 home win in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup. Our victims were a club from lower down the pyramid but who had, earlier in the decade, twice dumped us out of knockout competitions. Who were they?

The Grays situation was similar to our youth team's expulsion last year in the FA Youth Cup in that they played a player who hadn't received international clearance although he had previously played for 2 other English clubs but not in the FA Cup

Our last appearance in the 2nd QF round I believe we dumped our old Trophy adversaries Bishop's Stortford out 2-0 at their place. A draw and a replay win against Hemel in the 3rd QF round landed us with an away tie at Aldershot which we narrowly lost 1-0. I remember coming away from that game thinking that based on that performance we could compete at the level above. Looking up how we were doing in the league, at the time of that last game we were 11th in the South, 14 points behind leaders Ebbsfleet. After 12 games our record was W4 D5 L3 leaving us on 17 points. We of course went on to win the title by 6 points. After 12 games this season, our record is W3 D6 L3 and we're 12 points behind leaders Bromley. Just goes to show that sometimes you can go a bit loopy if you read too much into the table after 12 games!

A nice-looking draw for Dos & Co. A home tie against Hadley from the Essex Senior League. One step closer to what feels like the inevitable Havant v Sutton in the 4th qualifying!

64 sides will take part in the 4th qualifying round, so that inevitable tie with Havant has odds of 63 to 1. Just saying.
EDIT: That's assuming Havant get through to the 4QR, of course!

Nearly got me this did - I vaguely remember slipping out of the Trophy to Uxbridge 1-0 a fair few years back in a home replay but couldn’t for the life of me remember another exit to them until a few moments ago - was it the Full Members Cup or Ryman League Cup where we lost at theirs?!

Interestingly Matt Gray’s family are involved with the running of Hadley FC. Whilst of course I hope the bobbins lose every game 7-0, they are only a win at Lowestoft away from a potential tie with ourselves. That would be interesting
