www.cu-fc.com/news/2020/september/club-statement/According to this Colchester made less than £8000 streaming their game against Bolton. If the National League bring in the same rules as the EFL regarding how much money is made from away fans then it won’t matter how many “big clubs” we play in this league. Add to the fact that any Sutton supporters who would be interested in watching a live stream of our games already have a season ticket that means we would make £0 from home fans whilst behind closed doors. We’d be making virtually no money when playing sides like Boreham wood or Solihull. Starting the season with no fans surely can’t work

i agree - it is either allow fans in or don't play.
to be honest at the moment with cases rising I don't think there should be any fans at any matches. we should have started at beginning of August with limited number of fans in ground.
what is really annoying me at the moment is smaller clubs being allowed to seemingly have unlimited numbers of fans in their grounds - most of which must be smaller and so social distancing must be harder to achieve.
At Sutton social distancing would not be a problem if 500 fans were allowed entry.

How does this equate to "unlimited numbers of fans"? What exactly are you basing this assertion on?

At Sutton social distancing would not be a problem if 500 fans were allowed entry. They don't have "unlimited" fans. There is a strict number allowed in based on the minimum capacity at that level - so equal for all clubs regardless of the size of their ground. For our level, the minimum capacity is 4,000. So regardless whether it's Maidenhead's ground or Notts County's ground, if a capacity was set at 20%, then 800 fans could be let in. For lower league clubs. For a club at SCR's level, the minimum capacity at that level meant only 300 fans could be admitted regardless of the size of GGL.

Any club at our level doesn't just make income of people paying to get in. Bars/food/programmes/merch. All of those need people there.
Streaming may give a small amount of income, but it won't be anywhere close to people being there.

I’m guessing they’ll be a statement out imminently but Dan Roan has tweeted that the start date of 3rd October remains likely.

If football at our level doesn't start for 6 months then we have no season. No easy answers to this i'm afraid. Still looking at the figures today i expect we shall all be in lockdown again soon.

National League's crucial statement, released in the last half hour reads:
Following a meeting of its Board of Directors this afternoon, the following update is issued on behalf of The National League: In recognition of the financial uncertainty facing its member clubs, The National League is actively engaged with Government, with the assistance of The Football Association, to secure a critical financial support package, and it is hoped this can be announced very soon.
It is imperative the revenue shortfall caused by the pause to the safe return of spectators is responsibly addressed so each club can operate sustainably over the course of the forthcoming season.

Del - Not if you don’t have to pay players/staff. Couldn’t find the accounts on the official site to confirm but they’d likely be our biggest expense by far. Not a great time to be a player relying on football at this level as their main source of income. Even with a limited attendance, bearing in mind a large chunk will be STHs and less money will be spent in the ground due to restrictions, we would likely struggle to pay the players/staff for any length of time in my uninformed opinion. I’m also aware contracts will be in place but not sure the extent COVID has been written into them to protect us. Also we want to be doing right by the players too.
Terrible situation and it’s a mess. Ridiculous that government rules could play a big part in which clubs survive and which don’t.
I was wondering what our costs would be if we did have to mothball the club until summer 2021, presumably ways of reducing right down, especially if a helping hand along the way. Also presume it wouldn’t quite come down to that as we could still have schools potentially hiring the pitch etc.

Hoping there’s some truth in this..£40,000 per club might not go far for some in the National League but that would pretty much cover our monthly playing budget would it not?!
