I'm not singling anyone out because I know it applies to a few people. But if fans carry on behaving like this, turning up at closed games and making it known they're Sutton fans, there may well be consequences you don't like. Getting the club into trouble and setting back their plans to get fans back in is no way to thank the tireless volunteers who have been putting vast amounts of time and energy into plans to make watching football safe for us all. The authorities are not going to allow fans back in if we show them time and again that we cannot follow simple rules designed to keep us all safe. Are we forgetting about that bit, by the way? Covid infection rates are soaring at the moment and it doesn't take a genius to link that with the increase in people congregating socially. I'm pretty furious, to be honest. Going to football has been an essential part of my mental health self-care for 25 years, and along with many others I'm struggling. Until now, I hadn't missed a Sutton first team home match since the nineties and had only missed one away match since the 2003-04 season. Staying at home when Sutton are playing and not being there is, to me, a MASSIVE sacrifice. I am desperate to stand with my friends at GGL again, there are some people out there I haven't seen all year and want to hug so much it almost physically hurts, and football is such an important part of my identity, such a rock-solid constant in my life up until this year, that I've been feeling completely lost without it. I could have gone to Dorking and St Albans and watched games over fences and I would have LOVED being at those games, but I didn't. I want to do my bit to get us on the other side of this. But if we behave selfishly and don't all make those sacrifices and play by the rules, we will have a very, very long wait for that. Very well put Sarah. Fortunately I have Worcester to bale me out at the moment, although that may not last long, with the way things are going regarding potentialnew lockdown etc. I also lose my job on 23rd October so God knows when I will be able to come again after this season anyway!Personally I think the rules are a complete farce but breaking them is not the answer!

Not wanting to spread a deadly virus or act in a way that will jeopardise everyone else's chances of getting back to football is not "jealousy," Billy. Give it a rest, mate.

Sutton supporters are insanely jealous that they didn't go totally against the advice coming from the club and they are jealous that they've not undermined the club at all.

Well not withstanding the pros & cons or watching a football match from a public footpath the most important point here is why were Dorking allowing the public into their ground when clearly this is not permitted !

Well, indeed. But if they're permitting entry to people they shouldn't then any trouble they get into is their business and we can't stop them doing that. I'm therefore more concerned about potential repercussions for our own club.

I think anyone who attends a match to be played behind closed doors, is being very naughty and probably breaking the law not only FA and National League rules. Having said that, let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone'. I am sure there are a few on here who would have taken the opportunity although may not have put it on here. When I was a kid I used to climb over the all to avoid paying my 20p, so I am no saint.
What I do think is important, is that someone invited a person(s) who should not have been allowed to come into the ground, they are guilty for initially breaking the rules/law. I have also noticed that far too many people are at matches full stop. I have also noticed the ball being thrown back to players without sanitizing etc.

In the 1960's we used to climb in a few yards in to the park at the GGL end or under the mesh at the Collingwood Road end.Looking back i can't think why we bothered - it was only a tanner or at most a shilling to get in !
As for too many people being at matches i actually rewound and froze the screen while watching the Man City game on MOTD2.There seemed to be quite a crowd sitting at the back of the stand.

Well, a shilling in 1960 is worth £1.21 nowadays!

The fundamental difference being, that we weren't in the throes of a global pandemic in the 1960's. In any event, unauthorised entry shouldn't be condoned in any era... But you're absolutely right about spectators very clearly being visible during televised matches, in spite of the supposed "no spectators" restrictions. I have noticed this on a number of occasions recently. Perhaps there's a legitimate reason for this, but I'm not aware of any.
