We are very sorry to have to advise you, at this late hour, but we are not able to go ahead with the planned live-streaming of tomorrow's game in the MBA Lounge. We are as disappointed by this as you are, we know how much many of you enjoy the opportunity to get together to watch the team, even if it is only on a glass screen. Here is the full announcement from our website www.suttonunited.net/club-announcement-streaming-to-clubhouse/

Don't for one second think that effort isn't fully appreciated by me, and hopefully plenty of others.

I would assume with negotiations between the National league & the Government ongoing re a financial package that they did not want clubs to be seeing to raise funds in this way.

I would assume with negotiations between the National league & the Government ongoing re a financial package that they did not want clubs to be seeing to raise funds in this way. That doesn't make sense! If that were the case there would be no streaming. They've not closed the clubhouse at all. Wealdstone have just announced their bar will be open and will stream PL games. Mind you, that makes no sense either. My opinion is two fold - one is that you probably need a uniform measure in place for the entire league. Because of the physical nature of club bars, some will be able to "police" better than others, and in the case of Wealdstone their bar can lead directly into the stadium. The same would apply for someone like Ebbsfleet and Maidenhead (bars are actually located beyond the turnstiles). The other one will be there will be some fans who would struggle to resist the temptation of seeing the game live (and why last week at Dorking was such an issue). The league and clubs are not silly enough to know this happens (and I'm not just talking about us, I expect most other clubs have had similar issues). So they probably think that a blanket ban on fans having a reason to come to the club is the simplest solution. I get that, but to be honest having that decision made so late in the day is really poor by the league.

What Andy said - especially the bit about how hard the club have worked to get this on only to be told we can't. So as things stand, from the information I've seen, Wealdstone would be allowed to stream our match in their bar and we'd be allowed to stream theirs. Can't we just swap bars for the day?

I forgot to add that clubs had to give figures to the League earlier in the week.
Also, seems like the figure overall has been decided - Ollie Bayliss tweeted that a £10m support package for the NL has been agreed to cover 3 months. Division of money to be confirmed. He has deleted the tweet now so it may not be totally accurate.

I have had read to me the letter that was sent from the National league to clubs informing them that streaming to bars at clubs was prohibited.
My source was not Sutton (it came from another club), if I had received a letter so rude and arrogant in tone, I would have been up the National league offices and punching the author up the bracket (I know who it is). Especially Given that this letter was only sent out last night giving very little warning to clubs who had thought they were doing nothing wrong.

With a big carrot in the form of a £10m grant covering the next three months, I suspect a proportionately sized stick will be wielded against any club that doesn't play ball (no pun intended). He who pays the piper calls the tune, even if that tune differs to the one which appears on the score sheet (again, no pun intended).
