The side Spurs fielded that night was one of the strongest teams ever play at GGL, so my question what the strongest 5 teams to play at GGL?
1 -Leads United (1970) 2 -Spurs (1985) 3 -Coventry City (1989) 4 -Arsenal (2017) 5 -Middlesbrough (1988)
I can hardly argue with that - Leeds were reigning champions (and ended up finishing 2nd that season) and 9 of the starting XI were full internationals (only Harvey and Madeley hadn't been capped by the time of the game but would go on to be internationals) and ended up the season in 2nd place in the league, FA Cup finalists and European Cup semi finalists.
I'd probably swap Spurs and Coventry around, although Spurs were UEFA Cup holders at the time. I'd whack in Davef's Chelsea team in 4th and push Arsenal and Middlesbrough down to 5th and 6th.
Wow, odd to think we played both the FA Cup winners and the beaten finalists in the same calendar year!

Yes I remember how small she was! Also as dad and I were leaving the ground, one of the Chelsea staff was walking along by the car park holding the FA Cup by one of the handles. I couldn't resist touching it as he went past! LOL
And 2 players in that Spurs team would reappear as opponents 4 seasons later in the FA Cup wearing Norwich City colours!
Very different times, that a top flight cub would come to GGL to play a game like this in the middle of a season. My abiding memory of that night was after I left the bar and stood in the tunnel waiting for a friend, I was tapped on the shoulder by someone who said: "Excuse me Son" (I was still school age then!) as he brushed past me...Glenn Hoddle off out for the warm up!! When you think of the security surrounding the visit of Arsenal, weren't things so much more relaxed then.
georgieboy: Brilliant result especially after travelling up on day. Well done all.

merchandiser: You guys make me laugh, have you been to many away grounds, I don't think so. When we travelled up north for most of the trophy rounds last season, you would not believe, it was like going back to the seventies.

scorpioeyes: I predicted a relegation struggle with a totally inexperienced manager. Hope I am wrong, but it doesn't look like it. MG is out of his depth, that's obvious.

ggl: So are we now saying we have a manager who is not in favour of bringing in loan players and if the board decided to part company with him they cannot afford to do so ?

historyboy: Sad to hear of the passing of Eddie Cack, I remember him well. I think that the said photograph publishsed by the club, of him sitting next to Dave Hermitage, isn't him at all; I think the picture shows Micky Goodall. Compare other pictures of both.
