I understand although I can't see anything on the National League website, that they are now switching fixtures.
My understanding is it could start as early as this Saturday.

I knew that but didn't want to break the news, but I also expect other fixtures to move as well

It already had happened actually as Wealdstone switched their fixture with Borehamwood over Christmas due to flooding at The Vale but it then got called off because of Covid in the Wealdstone camp.

I really think at the moment for probably the next month there should be a total shutdown of football. It seems ridiculous that a team should now travel across most of the country to Sutton, which sadly is one of the most infected parts of the country right now.

I understand why you say that but, if that were done, it would need to be a shutdown for the same duuration as the general lockdown lasts. Otherwise how does it achieve anything? And, of course, there goes the season. I don't quite understand why so many people periodically suggest that a one month crackdown might really shift things when we've seen, repeatedly, that it doesn't. Is it because it's quite a long time but not so long as to be really depressing?

It would hardly be a surprise if football at our level were suspended soon. But there's already a backlog of fixtures, most of which are due to be played over the next six weeks. If the season is paused then there would be a major doubt about whether it could be completed. With fewer than 50% of games played, that could well lead to the season being declared null and void. (That scenario already looks ominously likely for 'non-elite' football below Step 2.)

I don't quite understand why so many people periodically suggest that a one month crackdown might really shift things when we've seen, repeatedly, that it doesn't. Is it because it's quite a long time but not so long as to be really depressing? I have been probably one of the biggest dissenters on this, no not a pandemic specialist as some would point out. But I have mashed data for most of my working life and can read a trend. I was dead set against what I called 'Disaster December', and I did think it would be counter productive. However I do not think football should stop, the amount of people involved without crowds is tiny, and in truth that should be able to be managed. The testing rules from EFL to National have been pretty shambolic, but now tests are freely available they should be made use of. For what its worth I still think we have another 7-10 days before this thing peaks out, and it will get worse before it gets better. But once we round that bend with the vaccine and now some herd immunity things should steadily improve. And yes a proper short term crackdown followed by a proper track and trace system would have averted where we are today, we may have needed to do it twice but Asia has shown the way on this.

I don't know if anyone else is keeping tabs on matches remaining and time left in the season? Dover still have to play 33 matches. H&W who are currently self isolating have only played 10 of 40 matches.
As each week passes these numbers are only going to get worse.

The season will have to be extended and the next one delayed. I can't think of a more logical solution. Same as the EFL I suppose. With the EFL there is the question of Euro 2020, or rather 2021 (if it goes ahead). If the season is extended by too much Wembley may not be a viable venue for any play-off finals and the National League final. Plus obviously some of the players competing play in the EFL. Still, there is a way to go before we can start debating any possible permutations. Edited: Had to. Was not clear enough initially.
