Looked like Wood were having a slightly off day? Nonetheless we made decent opposition look pretty ordinary.
Well done, lads!

2-0 to Sutton. A tough, physical battle between two well drilled sides, graced by a tremendous individual goal from the fit-again Will Randall, reminiscent of the one that David A scored against Eastleigh three weeks ago. That was after Louis John had set us on our way with a goal from a corner. Great defensive display too, and when the ball rebounded off Louis and fell for hit-man Tshimanga, Dean Bouzanis was quickly off his line to snuff out the danger. The three points take us back up to 2nd, and we've pulled two points clear of Stockport who could only draw 0-0 at home to Aldershot. Torquay (whose game was called off) are now just seven points above us, and we have three games in hand over them.

Fantastic win and one of the best goals i have seen at GGL, certainly in a long time. A friend of mine commented that he thought Boreham Wood had brought on their coach driver when he saw Matt Rhead come on! Lets hope the Dover game goes ahead as Torquay don't have a game on Tuesday or if not may be bring the Barnet one forward.

Very very good win. Defensively excellent. Boreham Wood struggle to score goals but generally keep them out and they definitely looked that way today. We barely gave them a sniff after going 2-0, bar another (redeemed) dodgy keeping moment. We can definitely put ourselves in striking distance Tuesday (on the presumption Dover travel).

Another top drawer performance, especially by our back 4. They literally didn't give Wood a sniff and aside from a couple of moments Bouzanis had very little to do. Our first goal reminded me of some of the goals early on in the season when we were less confident at set pieces, but you still have to capitalise on those mistakes and great to see Louis get off the mark.
Our second was Randall doing a better impression of Ajiboye than we thought possible. How far did that lad run?
My MoM could have been Randall but to me he was just edged by Milsom who is having I think his best spell at the club. Literally gave nothing away.
Over our last 10 games we've gained 7 points on Torquay who, as I've pointed out before, are not all conquering at the moment. We can seize the initiative. Today we showed we can.
Although I get the excitement Ahmed said at the end about PPG, we know we don't want the season to end now as it will be null and void rather than PPG (remember we've not played half of the season yet). We just need to keep getting the points on the board so come the end of Feb we're right up there. Our fate again is now in our hands.

Have there been any updates on the injuries from last weekend's match? Hi Cheshire, think you missed the post above yours, and Matt's interview prior to the "postponed" Woking game, both injuries weren't as bad as feared, but they weren't ready for that postponed game Thank you...Yup looks like I missed that one

But what constitutes half the season? The date? Maximum number of games played? Average number of games played? At the moment we are second to Torquay on PPG anyway. As an aside, does anybody see PPG and read PPE?

3G pitches are not rendered unplayable by freezing conditions, but they are affected. The pitch would not have been watered as it usually is. So long as there is no standing water, the water mixed with the rubber granules does not freeze them solid because by design the granules are large enough to prevent that. But rubber does harden as it cools, an example the ride you get in a car on cold tires. So for the first half hour the players struggled with the bounce. It was similar to playing with the Jako ball of previous years, whereas the New Balance ball used this season plays on 3G similar to the way it plays on grass at warmer temperatures.
A cracking game from the 30th minute, and a superb U's win.

I was at home, sitting on the sofa, watching the game on my laptop. When Will ran three quarters of the pitch to score, I still leapt up out of my chair and punched the air.
Can you imagine the reaction if we had fans in the stadium ?

First of all please note this is not to brag and after manning the car park entrance for the three hours in sub zero temps there is nothing to brag about. My ball retrieving skills also came into play for the first time in some weeks.
With very few other bodies around distraction from the actual match is near zero and thus the senses are heightened to what you are seeing and indeed hearing on the pitch. The intensity of Sutton's defensive play right from the top two to Dean in goal was tremendous to witness. The verbal organisation is one thing but the physical requirements to actually do it are immense.
BW has a very physical team full of those willing to run but finding pockets of space in U's defence yesterday was so difficult for them because e of how hard Sutton's players worked without the ball. On most occasions BW just ran out of options and probaly their best bit of movement was when Marsh curled that left footer just past the post after his fine movement found him that otherwise imposible to find space.
I really believe this is the fittest Sutton side I have ever seen and couple that to the organisation planned by Matt G & Co and the level of concentration required by the players to apply it in a match and the fact they have the mental capacity to do so is why praise cannot be gushing enough.
Couple the above with the flashes of skill that has brought some quite brilliant goals recently and the squad has taken the club to where it is on merit, no argument.
Of course, the empty grounds mean you can hear most of what is said on the pitch (and off it). While most ref's are often accused of needing glasses, yesterday's perhaps was in need of a hearing aid. He didn't even acknowledge their 'keepers second half outburst which, irrespective of whoever it was aimed at, would generally be considered a red card.
One other observation was that the BW bench was one of (if not, the) least animated I have seen at GGL this season which is a credit to Luke Garrard; he has emerged from this fixture with a lot of credit if no points.

I said earlier the season I think this is the best Sutton side I have seen.
That is not to devalue any previous sides or work of previous managers, we have had some great ones. They have produced wonders over the years and we have been thoroughly spoilt with their achievements, but they all had one thing in common, they were over achieving, giving 120% and more, and moving the bar up and up.
The difference this time is that this side is at that level already, as MarkF says they are fitter, they are stronger and together there are no weak links, and their 100% is previous sides 120%.
Never before in my life time has Sutton ever had a team I could truly say were good enough for FL football, but this one would hold its own of that I have no doubt.
