a very recent discussion an interesting stat has arised.
Since beginning the club's change of fortunes with that win at Torquay last season, U's NL record (inc last night) is thus.
P45 W26 D12 L7 F74 A38 PTS 90
If recorded across one whole season, where would such a record leave SUFC, I wonder?
Impressive.

This thread has stats in it so it will do for this idea : I hear a lot of crap from the National show hosts, like when our challenge will fade and the big boys take over at the top because we are not used to dealing with the pressure that brings. So I wondered how you could change being out in front to chasing so I came up with the following amended league table : Predicted final table with Sutton's points 'actual' update it after each game, if we get to the top of this table we have basically won the title. As you can see we are only 14th in this table : Attachments:

Can you explain how that works? On what basis is it predicted, why have we played fewer games, etc?

So you've included the Dover games! By my reckoning you're giving Stockport over 2.5 points per game from now until the end of the season which will mean they will beat us on Saturday!

OS is saying that he has taken the predicted final table and stripped out our future 'results', leaving us as we are now. So the future is 'in our hands' and Os is going to update it as we gain real points. Like mine, it's a fun idea which uses predicted results. I think he needs to strip out all data pertaining to Dover, but I shall be watching it with interest!

So Stockport would have to win 12 of their last 15 games if i'm reading that correctly.

I get the idea, but he's stripped out our future results but not our results in terms of the other sides. All of the other teams we've still got to play have points which include predictions of our games too, so therefore each time we play, those other stats will have to change. For a side like Barnet, that will change significantly as we've yet to play them!

If I've crunched the numbers correctly... Assuming Dover's results are expunged and the season is 42 games, then if Sutton continues at the current PPG of 2.15 then our projected 90 points could only be topped by Torquay (they would need 2.81 for the rest of the season), Stockport (2.94), Notts Co (2.67)...and Maidenhead (3). So that's simple, then. Maintain our PPG record and beat those four when we face them and we could only fail to win the league if Notts/Torquay had astonishing runs of form in their remaining games. AND they have to face eachother, so let's just say that 2.15 PPG will do it! Hmm, perhaps it really is easier to take one game at a time I really should be working.

You are spot on, the predicted table changes after each set of results, but our matches and points are our actual live results after each match. The predicted table is as football web pages have it as of now, the day that Dover results are removed (as expected) the predicted table will change with it. Its a visualization of our actual position related to the title instead of the need to work out manually, eg points per game etc.
