It comes down to the sharp end, we have not really looked like scoring in 3 matches now.
Can I just say I am mentally shattered after that, you would have thought I played the whole 96 mins..

To be honest I’m glad the game is over. I have been thinking of nothing else for the last few days

It comes down to the sharp end, we have not really looked like scoring in 3 matches now. Would say we had some chances tonight. Omar’s was actually a glaring miss. We had what looked a clear penalty not given. Olaofe got through as well but didn’t get his shot off in time. Omar also brought a great save out of their keeper. We had a couple of moments. Obviously counter to that is they could have easily score 2 or 3 on another night. Wonder if we could have started Simpson tonight and moved Barden into midfield.

One real chance for Bugel and that free kick at the end was it really.

Strangely inept displays from the new recruits Joash and Junior -who don't seem to have what it takes at this level. Better with Wilson on.
Real problem is nobody moving with the ball at their feet through the middle - normally Kenny's role. Without a constructive player there U's are too predictable - a long ball forward is never diagonal, always parallel to the sideline. Bugiel is expected to knock it down to David or Tanto not far from him. Opponents can concentrate their defenders in a small area as soon as our rearguard get the ball - because they know in advance where the pass is going.

I hope tonight gives us a kick up the arse. Personally I think we've not been convincing since getting a result at Chesterfield a month ago.
We've got 10 games left. Still in our hands. But we need to up our game more than we have in recent matches. Especially in attack.
No question that we got the result we deserved tonight.

Agreed. Right from ko Torquay played like they knew this was a game they had to win and the raised arms at the final whistle showed how important to them the result was. We need to approach the remaining games in the same way and show the same energy levels and commitment. It’s still in our hands.

Tonight i went out for only the second time since September, the previous occasion being a trip to Epsom Racecourse to be vaccinated in February.
I took a stroll round the corner to the park and the football ground which was virtually deserted.Loads of kids playing at the Collingwood Road end but not a soul around the locked up gates. At the other end of the ground it was equally quiet though the car park seemed full.
This was at the start of the second half by the way.On seeing the gate slightly open i didn't try to enter but politely enquired if i could come in and watch.I was met with an equally polite refusal that included "It's not allowed."I watched for a while through the gate and then went home.
I couldn't help thinking for the rest of the evening what difference it would have made if i was standing 5 yards to the other side of the fence, minding my own business, in acres of space.

In practical terms, none at all. But if the powers that be found out, the club would've been in a lot of trouble.
The problem is, if you'd done that, and then another passer-by saw you and said "hang on, how's he in there? Can I come in too?" then how would it be fair to say no? They'd have acres of space too, right?
And then a third person...
Where do you stop? Best keep that line where it is, since it's perfectly clear.
I honestly do see where you're coming from and agree it wouldn't have hurt anyone on its own but the thing is every action is part of a bigger picture.
Hopefully it won't be too long now before we can go back in.

I went to an outdoor antique fair yesterday at Kempton Park. Must have been 2-3 thousand there. Shame the Govt seem to think the virus targets football supporters.

If we are going to persist with the long balls ( and throw ins) always aimed at Omar, then if Will is not fit to return, lets go with Wilson and Tanto up front from the start.
Without Will we have little attacking option on the left side to complement David on the right side, so maybe two similar attackers can pick up on the scraps that the long balls provide.
Of course I would much prefer us to pass our way forward but I struggle to remember a recent game where we have tried this very much even though Matt says he likes a passing game. We are quite good at sideways and back passing though.

If I recall correctly, Callum Kealy came on as a sub at Halifax and was effective in a wide left position. Worth trying with that option if Will remains sidelined?

Presumably the left sided loanee is highly regarded so I think we need to trust the management’s judgement on that for now. A few minutes in a game we struggled in isn’t really the time to pass snap judgements. They must believe he’d be a better bet in that particular position than Kealy.

Both sides had chances last night and the team that won took one of theirs and thus deserved the three points. Thought Torquay was decent with a lot of good movement going forward and you can see why they missed Wright; he's a good player and one day, maybe might make a good linesman too especially from the halfway line.
Don't know what it is with the rec side lino's (usually the junior of the two) but boy do they get stick off the visiting teams and some of it is way past dissent. Did the FA drop their respect campaign? They may well as do.
Thought the ref had a decent game until the last 5 minutes but having turned down 3 pen claims from Torquay, the first two were bollocks, the last one possibly (I didn't have the best of views) he turned down a blatant pull on Donovan late on. Consistency. Then came the two tackles leading to the last minute free-kick. The first was bad enough but that second looked a red card to me. Not because it was a DOGSO but because it was an awful tackle. Only one yellow, when at least two should have been the minimum.
Torquay has a physical but mobile team (not unlike U's tbh) and this was a decent game, a big game, but there are still ten (for U's) of those to go and nine for them. Nothing was decided last night. The top 3 need to be looking over their shoulders at Stockport too. Its just nice to be part of it all.
