We won comfortably today with really needed to get out of 2nd gear. It was probably the most one sided Sutton game I've seen this season. But I bet if that game happened 2 weeks ago, it wouldn't have been 4 0. I think Tuesday was the kick up the arse we needed. Losing to our main rival may, by the end if the season, not a bad thing. Many of us remember 85/86 and Yeovil. Yeah, I do wonder whether there was a psychological thing in the minds of either players or management that preservation of the unbeaten run was perhaps more important and that the wins would naturally follow, but if you're only creating two or three presentable chances per game then that plan has a pretty serious flaw. Got the defeat out of our system quickly, no time to stew over it, and let's be brutally honest the opposition were very poor compared to what we saw from them at GGL in January, but they've still got to be put away, and the margin of victory will hopefully reinject that confidence and swagger we had a month or so ago before the run of draws. While Altrincham have weakened since we last played them, Eastleigh seem to have gone the other way, so next week's game surely won't be as comfortable as yesterday was.

Must say that I wondered the same thing re the unbeaten run. We've picked up more points in our last two games despite having a loss than in the previous two, after all! Performance and result (and stream!) were just what the doctor ordered after Tuesday. Excellent response to the Torquay disappointment and also to Hartlepool's goalfest. Eastleigh will indeed be a test with the play-off picture tightening up. The good news is that, with 5th to 10th in contention, Hartlepool and Torquay have some testing games coming up. Both have to play Chesterfield and Bromley, while Torquay also have the pleasure of Notts, Eastleigh and Stockport as well.

Perhaps we have found the line up we need in he absence of Will Randall with Tobi Sho Silva or Omar Bugiel as the target man and Isaac Oloafe on the left. Surely Donovan Wilson has to start whatever our line up?

Interestingly we are now on precisely a 2 Points per game average. If we can continue this average for the remaining 9 games, we will almost certainly be champions on 84 points. Hartelpool probably need to win all 6 of their remaining games (including at ours, of course), to be probable champs on 85 points. Even 5 wins and a draw would see them finish on only 83. Torquay would need to average 2.333 PPG from their remaining 9. Not impossible, but difficult with the fixtures they have. With 2 losses they'd need to win 7 to hit 84 points. Or 6 wins and 3 draws.
Looking at the remaining fixtures, we would probably win the title with 5 wins 3 draws, or 6 wins 3 defeats. 4 wins and 5 draws quite possibly wouldnt be enough. If we can win all 5 'bankers' (home to Barnet, Woking, Weymouth, Aldershot and away to Barnet), and avoid defeat against Hartlepool, we are pretty much there.
Yesterday's win was huge. If we'd only drawn I would have made us 3rd favourites, the win keeps us narrow favourites. It's sure going to be an exciting 3-way chase.(the likes of Stockport would literally have to win every game to finish on 83 points). Torquay and hartlepool will not let up and both will pick up plenty of points in their remaining games. However, if we continue our 2 PPG haul their task is incredibly difficult.
If either the other challengers go on a mad run, fair play to them, they deserve it, but we should have some decent momentum. I fancy us to break our play off hoodoo and win at least one game under MG!

Ah, the old ‘banker’ matches ! We all know how they pan out. Alton at home, Yeading away, Braintree etc., Barnet have improved their squad with a couple of quality players and a manager who clearly has a clue. In this division it is better to respect each and every team and not to class some teams as also rans. We need to take each game at a time and respect the opposition. I know the management team do. Onward and upward Kbb

Onward and upward Kbb There's a reason the word 'banker' is in apostrophes and also I used the word IF. It's called hypothesis, my friend. Something football fans enjoy very much. Not sure where the idea hypothesis is disrespectful of opposition came from, and indeed we may well lose three 'banker' games and beat notts Co, eastleigh and hartlepool (which would be very sutton), the effect would be the same. We need 18 points from 9 matches. OH and for the record I think torquay will pip us by a point or two. They looked superb on Tuesday and will hit form at the perfect time, IMO.
