our capacity is 5000 and I read that outdoor events are allowed 50%,so why are we limited to 1050?

Because that is an upper limit. Every venue has to agree its covid-safe capacity with its local licensing authority.

our capacity is 5000 and I read that outdoor events are allowed 50%,so why are we limited to 1050? It’s a good question. We have huge amounts of space and not much of it is enclosed. Our capacity limit is very conservative as it is, anyone who went to the games at the recent FA Cup games would agree. The was a lot more space than required for social distancing on the previous occasions this season. Additionally aren’t the rules re. social distancing also now more relaxed in an outdoor context compared to our prior attended home matches (I’m not clear on this given the ever changing rules over the period!)? No criticism of the club, as I’m sure they agreed whatever could be agreed, but it’s an ultra conservative figure. I assume (perhaps wrongly) an element of it is we have already got it signed off earlier in the season along the same lines.

Actually, the capacity is calculated on a very precise formula that all clubs have to apply.
Even in non-Covid times the capacity actually has surprisingly little to do with how much "space" we have.

It also takes account of the fact that if it is raining and everyone wants to be under cover can they still stand/sit 2m apart.

Blessed is the person who having nothing to say abstains from giving us wordy evidence of the fact.

The weather forecast suggests that it could indeed be a bit showery on Sunday afternoon. Perhaps it might serve as a reminder if the pre-match music were to include the Police hit single ‘Don’t Stand So Close to Me’....!

I’m sure it is Dave and appreciate that. I know there are plenty of criteria. I’m just not sure how these formulas translate to grounds like ours. I’ve certainly had the perception that more could be comfortably accommodated. Obviously this is not an informed perception!
Given you know a lot more about the subject than I do what would give us an increased capacity? Would another entrance/exit/turnstiles? Would more seating reduce, increase or result in no change? More toilets? More facilities - catering etc?

There are limiting factors, such as how quickly the stadium can be evacuated. Whether seating increases or decreases capacity depends on what was there before. Seats have less capacity than a standing terrace (usually) but would increase the capacity of an area of flat standing.
Without a major re-design the easiest way to increase numbers is probably more crush barriers. Obviously building up is the only way to get big numbers.
You do need more facilities for bigger crowds but that's not usually the deciding factor.

If it rains on Sunday some spectators would need to remain in the open, it is not allowed to all dash under cover.

One of the many projects we have been doing in the general preparation for next season has been looking at the numerous things that need improving, including those that currently limit capacity, and could be improved by way of modified or installing new facilities. This has been partly complicated by Covid restrictions, but also in having no reliable foresight on what limitations there will be in stadia - and recreational facilities generally - for the season ahead, regardless of which division we find ourselves in. Suffice to say the Board is on top of this, and has received specialist advice in this area. Whilst perhaps disappointingly we have to limit it to "wait and see" at this stage, there will be works taking place at the ground in the summer and we will be making further announcements in due course. The main current priorities are what is happening on the pitch, not around it, I think it is fair to say.

Not at Wembley it’s not. There’s less fans there tomorrow than there were for the FA Cup Final. It’s a farce and discriminatory against non league. Our situation is different but the Wembley one is quite odd

But wasn't the Cup final a trial as it was played on the 15th May?
Only 8000 at Chelsea v Leicester in the league too so perhaps not only does this affect Sutton and other non-league clubs.

Yes but Wembley is bigger than these grounds so to only have 3000 fans from each club seems poor to me when Stamford Bridge is half the capacity.
