One reason I love this forum is that its all here : Comments : - I said at the start of the season that this was a bad choice of manager and sadly I have been proved correct. Get an experienced man in and don't leave it until a miracle is needed to stay up.
- We need a new manager and NOW . TAXI FOR MATT GRAY please .
- I'm not necessarily saying that Matt should be sacked, but from a psychological standpoint, now would actually be a good time
- but under Matt I have seen nothing that makes me think he is a good enough Manager and the buck stops with him.And there are more, they all have their names by them too Why not spend a bit more time enjoying our unexpected success and a bit less time digging up old posts, wagging a finger and reminding anyone who'll listen how wrong they were. Even more insufferable is your desire to prove to everyone how right you were all along. I hope you got a nice pat on the head and a treat. Well, how do you think I feel?! One of my comments from last season was totally misinterpreted and lumped in as an anti-Matt post. But, for some, it’s clearly important to try and score points over others no matter what. In this instance though, what isn’t realised is that, for those it’s directed at, it kind of sucks some of the joy out of the greatest achievement in the club’s history. Well done.

No posts, regardless of their content, have changed the fact we are National League champions 2020/21.
I'm just going to immerse myself in that for the next few weeks at very least. Now it's starting to sink in.

Now it's starting to sink in. I think you are right, but I am not sure it has sunk in yet with me. I do think some posters miss the point of previous comments made over the past seasons, it shows where we have been, it shows the low points, you can't really experience the highs unless you have been there at the crappy end of the stick. I suspect almost every poster on this forum including myself have said sack the manager at some point, or we are doomed to relegations with this team etc. I just cannot believe that 18 months ago we were in a relegation spot and had just been beaten 4-1 at Billericay, who would have predicted this? My only reason for sticking with Matt at the time was because Dos told me we had a good man, and how could I doubt Dos no matter what was happening on the pitch?

I've been a bit quiet on this thread. To tell you the truth, I've been a bit too overwhelmed by emotion. A few times I've started writing something but been unable to finish it. The rollercoaster ride we've been on through Covid, missing being together and the old routine of standing on the terraces, losing beloved members of our Sutton United family, being able to watch some absolutely fantastic performances from players who were so clearly committed to their game and to our club, the most exciting title race I can ever remember us being involved in, not quite daring to believe we were going to do it and then, on the very day a fortunate few of us were able to go back to our home ground and be there to cheer on our team in front of the TV cameras...winning a league title most of us have only ever dreamt of us winning and never really thought it would happen...
It's been a lot to process. Even some of the celebrations that day were oddly muted like none of us could quite believe it was happening. It felt like a dream. And it still feels as good as one. After all, who among those of us who saw us relegated to Step 3 not so long ago would believe you if you'd said at the time we would be a Football League club in a little over a decade? I'd have said I didn't think it would EVER happen.
I don't think I could do it justice in a forum post really, but I want to thank all of you for making our collective dream come true. From those of you who read the forum and occasionally buy a live stream pass or match ticket, those who chip in when the club needs cash, those who muck in to do odd jobs when asked, right the way through to those making the decisions at the top and on the pitch. It's been said over and over again what a remarkable achievement ours has been, and I'm going to say it again.
For this club to have achieved what it has is incredible and the fact that we have done proves how special Sutton United FC really is. Because there's no way - absolutely no way - we could have done this without having such a dedicated, hardworking and talented group of people both on and off the pitch. Researching and planning to make Covid safety arrangements. Working around the clock just to make sure everything is done. The admin, the paperwork, answering constant queries, setting up and operating equipment, running social media, training sessions and game plans, making sure things are clean, endless meetings, media and livestreaming, ticketing, planning, planning, constant planning and arranging and doing, with far fewer people and resources than a lot of other clubs at this level. I am in awe of how much hard work has been done by this club over the season and I am so grateful to each and every one of you who has contributed in whatever large or small way because YOU made this happen. Not one of you has dropped the ball or let the club down, and so many things could have gone wrong but didn't (or someone has managed to fix them before they became a problem!)
I have always been proud to be a Sutton United fan, since I walked out of the ground in 1995 at the end of the first football match I ever attended. But right now I'm more proud than I've ever been. Not just because we have a fantastic team who have put in amazing performances against some of the best sides in non-league football, although that's part of it. Not just because we've got a brilliant manager who's gone from strength to strength since his appointment, although that's part of it too. But because the whole club has this incredible togetherness that gives us all a real sense of belonging, and when we really are in it together the things we can achieve are even more than many of us had ever believed to be possible. You're amazing. WE are.
I can't wait for next season.

I find this absolutely priceless. For anyone that hasn't spotted it, there's a thread on the Non-League Matters forum entitled ‘sutton united ground’. It was created by someone who only joined that forum a month ago and who displays an extraordinary level of ignorance! Here's a link to the thread: www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/forums/index.php?threads/sutton-united-ground.4528/And here are his gems of erudition (quoted verbatim): "never been there so apart from wiki and internet football ground guide, have no info on it, while at pock town other night got speaking to someone and we dont understand how they are allowed up, at you need mimimun 1000 covered seats in modern safe stand and have to have permission for 2000 seats in place by the following march 31st, looked at the pics and info this ground no way meets this rule and in the context the of national league is top two for worse grounds, have the football league bent the rules for covid, and if so when and how long does this continue for ??" "ok must have changed the rules, looks like the chairmans spent all the money on the squad and now has to fork out to get ready, so much for the green guide then, be a laugh if they go straight back down, cant see them having great support, plenty of very big clubs around that area." "obviously bankrolled by bloke but not spending on ground but getting players to get to league 2 , be another macc or maidstone and ground sold off for housing." Pleasingly though, he has been corrected (and in some cases, mocked!) by a number of far wiser posters.

According to STEVEW, a 'site administrator' on the same site, whoever buys the penalty spot is going to dreadfully disappointed because 'To be honest I don't know when Suttons 3G was laid or how much they have maintained it but it looked pretty knackered on TV with huge patches that were down to the rubber.' What kind of TV do these people watch their football on?

Wow. That's two things now in the space of 6 weeks that I never thought I’d ever see happening.
