Upon reading an article on Lincoln City's transfer news site this am. As a Sutton supporter of more than 60 years I was disappointed in remarks attributed to Mike Dowling of Sutton podcast in suggesting that Alistair Smith has out grown Sutton. In the article the podcast contributor suggests we are entitled to a fee on transfer what evidence has he to support this? I am fully aware of the right of free speech but wonder whether this contribution was discussed with our clubs press office. I was asked my opinion and gave it. Not sure if overly differs from most people's opinion that Ali is one of our better players. It is a signing they are heavily rumoured to be making as I hope we get a fee rather than lose him for nothing (based on age I think we get something). Also pretty sure not along in thinking Ali can, even should be playing at a higher level. Never have suggested I have spoken for the club in any official capacity any as a fan. Happily chat to you about it or can pass these requests your or anyone elses direction as I hate doing them. |

You justify your opinion by suggesting it is shared most fans, that infers more than 50%. A quick straw poll amongst my group was 5:1 against the view Ali's talent had outgrown the club he was though viewed a one of the more consistent performers by all but that's a different argument.If you do not like responding To other clubs social media best to decline. I think it had already been discussed about Smith's age which is information available on his Wikipedia page

To Andy k how do you know what is disappointing to Me? Am I not able to be disappointed by someone else's opinion I still feel it is disappointing to read fans feel Ali had outgrown the club . I am happy to know that you disagree .

I am happy to know that you you disagree however [ Maybe you can argue a poor choice of wording. But if Sutton United were going in for Ali Smith now based on his current levels and our current position would he join us? To me the answer is no, we have undoubtedly grown but surely you agree he has grown faster. |

I am happy to know that you disagree . Because it's based on a simple argument. If you feel, like many, that Ali is good enough to play in a L1 side at this point in his career, then it's impossible to think that its disappointing to read the phrase "Ali has outgrown us". If you would be disappointed if Ali left us, that's totally understandable, but also a very different argument. There were many last season who were disappointed David left us for entirely the same reasons, but unless you felt at the time that he wasn't ready for the step up (and I feel I was in the minority that didn't), then he must have "outgrown us". Of course you are able to be "disappointed in someone else's opinion" but that disappointment has to be based in something tangible. |
