Surprised there’s been no comments yet. I’m assuming Ajiboye and Randall were amongst the Covid sufferers, and they were both badly missed today, in my opinion, especially Ajiboye.
A disjointed game, I thought, and a draw would have been a fair result. Bugiel took his goal well, good cross by Kizzi and a simple finish. Bugiel battled hard all game. The Exeter left back shouldn’t have been allowed to get his shot away which dipped late, which Bouzanis parried and led to the quick equaliser; no blame from me on DB. The penalty was unexpected and carelessly conceded, but Rob Milsom put it away confidently.
An unconvincing win, but still yet another win. Well done SU.

Exeter got what they deserved, they played for a draw 2nd half and with their fouling whenever Sutton got close it was a dot on that they would pay the “penalty “.

I believe both David and Will have covid As Matt said in his interview yesterday Jason and Bobby are also suffering from covid. It was a disjointed game.( poss to much Christmas Pudding. Only joking ) Well taken goal by Omar. Another soft goal given away. No blame on Deano. The defence should have had the ball sooner. Well taken penalty by Rob. Yet 3 more points and a good start to 2022

Well done lads, another good win against a good side. We started well with the goal but switched off for the leveller. Second half think we shaded it! Milson stepping up too smash the winer home shows great nerve and also he’s been a great sighing for us. Exeter came for the draw so it was good to get that late win, so good times ahead and also another good gate.⚽️

A bonus win, that one. Chances were at a premium for both sides. On the one hand, I’m not sure we really deserved to pick up all three points, but then, I’m not sure Exeter did enough to warrant earning a point themselves (which sounds a bit contradictory, I know!). Well done to all concerned.
As for Exeter’s fans, I thought they were a credit to their team. God, they must rack up a lot miles for their passion.

We were a little unfortunate to lose at Exeter back in September, so today's result perhaps evened things up. Both teams were missing key players, so allowances have to be made. Three of our four usual wide players were absent, meaning that Tanto was out on the left wing - where I thought he had a decent game.
There was some nice build-up play for our opener before Deano almost literally handed them an equaliser. After that the match only sporadically sparked back into life. The late penalty to us followed a clumsy foul by their no.6 on sub Richie Bennett, and Rob Milsom confidently despatched the spot kick. Those late winners are at last starting to accumulate in our credit account.
The three points take us back up to 3rd. Can we go higher? 😮

There was the case of one heck of a nut case that was a die hard Exeter supporter who followed my friend and I down Sutton High Street. Ended up getting nicked, and with it he confessed to living in Rotherham.
Oh well.
The game was OK I thought. Moments of both teams taking over but when the penalty was awarded there was only going to be one answer.
Number 14 Deinjg for Exeter annoyed me though, went down in his penalty area apparently hurt and then subsequently got up and sarcastically applauded the Sutton fans. He was then subbed off.

I've watched the Exeter goal a few times now. While it would be harsh to classify it as a 'goal-keeping error', I think that a goalkeeper of Dean's quality would expect himself to hold the original shot more often than not.

While it would be harsh to classify it as a 'goal-keeping error', I think that a goalkeeper of Dean's quality would expect himself to hold the original shot more often than not. He was at full stretch just to get a hand to it, very little chance of holding it. Best he could’ve hoped for was to turn it round the post. Or hope that a defender got to it first!

A good three points and despite Exeter being depleted they seem to be a much better outfit than they were at their place.
This was one of these games that just seemed to go on and on where 45 mins seemed like an hour.2nd half was the same as the first but thankfully we got a penalty & reversed the unjust scoreline at St James Park!

The game had some isolated incidences of quality play. Thankfully two if them were for Sutton. A nicely worked goal that Buigel slotted in with his head. Before the game I had a gut feeling Buigel would score a goal with his head nor was I shy about telling people about this prediction 😊. Thankfully my other prediction that Buigel who plays up front but pops uo everywhere such is his energy and industry would give away a penalty did not materialise. He was my man of the match. At the 89th Milsom smashed in a penalty with the confidence that exemplified the squad as a whole. When the referee signalled six minutes added time nerves kicked in, would we neverously defend deep only to give away a penalty, a free kick in a dangerous spot, we did not and saw out the game for a win. A winning start to 2022.

The irony of it. Exeter c-b, Stubbs, spent much of yesterday's second half calling for non-existant fouls by Sutton only to produce a proper one himself to allow Rob M to step up and find the net from 12 yards to give U's the points. Rob is fast becoming (if not already) our new Jamie C as a left footed penalty king. He takes a great pen. Must have been hard to take for the generally excellent ECFC travelling support but then U's fans know all about late pens costing them a point.
Neither side would have complained at a draw as two sides starved of action in the last few weeks looked rusty at times but served up a decent display for the 3,000 plus crowd. Omar B seems to enjoy yuletide and he was there to head home from Joe K's cross after Donovan W had started the move by rolling his defender as he does so cleverly and getting U's into an attacking position. That goal earned me some pennies and I was collecting when I looked up to see their fella hit the equaliser.
From there it was even fare. Neither side looking like scoring again until Stubbs error of judgment. U's played better at Exeter and lost so three points taken off each other over the season about right.
The ref added 6 mins extra mainly to cover for City injuries. The 'keeper made a meal of Tanto's challenge and the ref fell for it but the other two both seemed to have cramp and went off; not surprising considering their recent inactivity. U's held firm to take back third place. A fine start to 2022.
Thought the ref gave us little throughout and seemed to take an age to give what was an obvious penalty. Can't complain about Jon B's yellow; a tactical foul that most players would have committed in that situation. We have seen better but also a fair bit worse this season.
MotM for me and most others was Omar B and his energetic, physical and driving performance was rewarded with that early goal. One of the hardest working c-f's this club has had.
39 points halfway through the season. Blimey.
PJT and Colchester next, Covid permitting.

An unconvincing win, but still yet another win. Well done SU. I wasn't there but unconvincing? What do you expect? We are playing and getting results way above what is expected of us. We are battling well in practically every game.

A pretty similar Exeter side battered FGR 0-0 tonight, suggests their depleted line up still pretty strong. Maybe some additional perspective on the win.
