Paul Warne has just been appointed Derby County's head coach, his departure from Rotherham Utd meaning that Matt Gray is now the 12th longest-serving manager (or head coach) out of the 92 in the Premier and Football Leagues.
With Brendan Rodgers at Leicester and Mark Robins at Coventry looking vulnerable, Matt could soon find himself in the top ten. And that's after less than three-and-a-half years in post.
All this illustrates that football management is a ludicrously precarious career. Thankfully, our club is more loyal to its managers than many others.

I wonder where we would sit in the table if it was based on a clubs average "manager longevity" over say the last 60 years...maybe the revolving door around 2005-2008 (Hazell, Howe, etc) would drag the average down but factoring Williams, Blunt and Cann.... ?

Off the top of my head and not including caretaker managers, Sutton have had 14 in the last 60 years.
This includes Keith Blunt's two separate terms as one manager and the Pritchard/Shepherd joint manager set up as one.

Caretakers were Osborne in early 1977, Massey/Stephens and later Dack during 07/08 Baird and indeed, Matt Gray (at Dover) back end of 18/19 season.

I remember reading recently that West Ham only had five managers between 1902 and 1989. Different era.

With Matt Taylor leaving Exeter for Rotherham- Matt Gray is up to 11th - he will undoubtedly be in the top 10 by Christmas I’m sure.

With Gareth Ainsworth leaving Wycombe (after over ten years) for QPR, I believe Matt now becomes the 9th longest-serving manager in the PL/EFL.
