I wonder how many posters took the trouble to inspect the pitch area in front of the grandstand before posting and critising the club and referee. This area hardly sees any sun this time of the year. Throughout the 60 years I have supported club the lack of sun on this part of the pitch has caused many matches to be postponed . Referees are required to make decisions like this maybe once or twice a season I doubt there is a definitive science.

Although folk are moaning that the inspection was too early, not all fans live locally. I left Swindon at 11.00 and pulled into Membrey Service Station to check on the match. Saw it was postponed and turned back at Junction 14. That part of the pitch rarely gets sun at this time of the year and it is really frustrating, but if we’d had a player injured we would have all been complaining that it should have been postponed. This time of year it happens, that’s one of the consequences of being a football fan of a club in League 2. If we’d still been in the NL (😱) the match would have been on. I know which I prefer. See you all at Harrogate! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Anyone going to carshalton instead? No question whether their game is on. Tempted, but more because of the sunshine and some decent pubs in the area than any football reasons. I do find it hard to belive the pitch isn't playable by now but sounds like we aren't the only victims of questionable decisions. Yes, I went and watched an enjoyable 1-0 victory to The Robins over Bower & Pitsea. Local rivalry aside, I quite like Colston Avenue and find the fan base there most welcoming. Always an ex-U on show as well. It was either here or South Park (Reigate) for me. As I don’t follow Sutton away I take in a local game when we are on our travels, and 3G pitches have saved my Saturday afternoons recently when all around games have been called off because of waterlogged pitches - take a bow South Park andAFC Whyteleafe!

The only thing I would say is given the locality of the opposition the ref could have given it more of a chance. I’d be surprised if he could definitively say for sure at 11. But never mind, not worth worrying about now, and it would likely have been the same result. And I say all this as someone who also has to travel from Swindon (and would have set off prior to a say 1pm inspection). At least we have another midweek game to look forward to on the positive side, I do love a midweek under lights!

I have to be critical of the person doing Twitter who said the cover a were off at 10.00 am and posted a sunny picture and didn't say there was going to a pitch inspection at 11.00 am until virtually 11.00- I had already bought two tickets and left for Sutton - fortunately a friend rang me so I didn't get two far. In future the Twitter announcements have to be more regular and a 11.00 pm inspection should have been announced at 10.00 and not just before 11.00. I hope the club will refund or allow the tickets bought to be transferred to another Saturday game - I can't make midweek games from Oxfordshire.

This is probably going to be an unpopular post but the referee actually did make the right call as at 3pm the area of concern of about 10yds wide by 40yds in length was still rock hard and frozen and it was still frozen as the sun was setting which would have been halfway through the second half - as evident from the posts on the forum throughout the day the supporters are deeply frustrated at the match being called off and seemingly so early which is understandable but player safety is more of paramount importance and there was a high risk of injuries occurring. An initial pitch inspection was arranged for 10am and the match ref arrived early and decided to do a second pitch inspection at 11am to give it a chance to thaw - the ref actually gave it an extra 15 minutes before calling it off seeing that the area of the pitch was not thawing and taking into account that the sun was at its highest point in the sky at this time of year and the area was still in shade and unlikely to see any sun until much later in the day. Pitch covers are only effective down to about -3°c apparently but thanks should go to SportsTurf ground staff (inc. the ground staff from QPR's Loftus Road that came over to help our own ground staff this morning) as well as the volunteers that helped to get the frost covers off the pitch this morning and trying everything to get the game on today but we got beaten by mother nature on this occasion. Against Colchester it got down to -2°c and we were very, very lucky to survive last month, but last night it was just that bit too cold and we lost the fixture today unfortunately. Obviously from my perspective as a club official it is frustrating and causes a headache with those that are unable to come to the rearranged fixture wanting a refund and we will generate less revenue midweek than what we would have if the match was played today but alas it was the right decision. More details of the refund process will be announced once the revised date is announced if you are unable to make the rearranged date (and to answer the question from toothman, if you are unable to get to a midweek home match then we of course will be happy to give you a credit to be transferred to another future home Saturday league match)

Chelsea Ladies v Liverpool Ladies at Kingsmead abandoned after 5 minutes today because one part of the pitch was frozen and clearly unsafe to play on.

Luckily I knew it was off but a friend of mine just arrived at the ground not knowing. Really the club website is rubbish. The biggest news on there is about the Harrogate game. Tucked up to the right is a bit about the game being cancelled. Why was that not the main news all day today? I know the club have no control but once again the website is worse than useless. I imagine chronology comes into play here. The latest update displaces the one before as the main headline. The fault lies not so much with the website, but with the decision to update it with the new headline before 3 p.m. I get that but why post something else at that time? What was the point of the more recent post being yesterday?

Crawley Town are getting goalkeeper Ryan Schofield on loan from my main team, Huddersfield Town. He’s a local lad that got thrown into the first team too early a couple of seasons ago and he’s never got his confidence back. Probably the worst goalkeeper I’ve ever seen play for HT. He has a strange habit of standing behind the goal line!

I am surprised that there has been nothing on the rescheduling of this game. Usually it happens quite quickly and we have plenty of Tuesdays free in the calendar. Also there is the issue of refunding of tickets brought for the original game that can't/won't be used for the new game.

Hi Toothman, the reason, I believe, is that Crawley have a backlog of fixtures, due to postponements, meaning that a lot of Tuesday's are already taken.....as soon as a date is agreed, it'll be announced

A quick glance at the fixture list on Crawley's website shows free Tuesdays on 7th and 21st February and 7th March.
As a season-ticket holder I can't say I'm terribly bothered about the delay in rescheduling this match, but the cynic in me wonders whether Crawley are spinning things out to allow more time for their new manager and signings to 'bed in'.
