We are pleased to be working with the people behind the new Community Cafe that is opening on Gander Green Lane (on the corner, opposite West Sutton Station) /photo/1This Community Hub will open both as a cafe (feel free to drop in after Saturday's game, U's merchandise on sale too) but also as the home for the new Community Fridge, a new venture intended to reduce food waste and in particular give access to good food to those in most need.

I love this idea so much. Food waste is something that hugely bothers me while others are struggling to get enough nutritious food. Now I know what we can do if we have too many cakes at the warm space of a Friday lunchtime

Not sure it is currently very "P.C" to link cake to nutritious food but I think both ventures are very worthy and deserve success. Looking ahead with the predicted hotter summers coupled with the good air conditioning in the MBA bar can we look forwards to a cool space through June July and August with even more nutritious ice cream sundaes being offered.

It actually doesn't mention anything about the nutritional value of the food (and I suppose it can't really if they're relying on donations to make it work) but good bakers know how to make cakes etc in a way that is a little more nutritious! For example last week I donated some oat cookies that contained a lot of naturally sweet fruit meaning there was very little refined sugar in them I also make ice creams with zero added sugars and completely fat free sorbet with nothing but fruit and mint, but unfortunately I wouldn't be able to transport those!

No sugar? How boring.

If you think that's boring you just don't know how to do it properly!
