Another long trip away for us to a team that has struggled for most of the season. They seemed to have done good business in the transfer window with 8 players either making debuts or being bought last month appearing in the starting XI in their win against Doncaster last week. In our previous 11 meetings, Hartlepool have only beaten us once (the season we won the league at the Victoria Ground) but we all remember the reverse fixture . Out of the rest we've won 5 and there have been 5 draws - two of each of those have happened away from home. They've won as many as home as we've won away this season, but both sides have improved since we beat them in September. As I said after last week, we have nothing to fear. After finally breaking the seal of winning for the first time north of the Thames since last May, there's no reason to think we would leave Hartlepool empty handed.

Pools may have signed almost an entire new team, but they still have the worst defensive record in the division (52 goals conceded in 29 games). At home they've only kept one clean sheet since September, and that was against bottom club Rochdale. Only Dale and resurgent Gillingham are currently keeping Pools out of the relegation zone, so they will be desperate for a good result on Saturday.
The key to stopping them scoring seems to be to keep Josh Umerah quiet. The former Wealdstone frontman has scored ten of their league goals this season, and provided the assist for their winner at Doncaster last weekend.

Until we go beyond the magical 50 points this season, I'm still going to be more conscious of the teams below us than above us. Given that the two favourites for relegation at the moment are arguably Rochdale and Hartlepool, I see this as an important game not to lose.

Ah, so the "you'll see who's carrying a knock" as alluded to in Matt's Preview is Rob Milsom...let's hope he's not out for too long !

One point away against a very poor side due to a silly yellow (red) card and Will out injured, not the best of days...

We went from victory to certain defeat within 5 mins, and fought well to earn a draw with 10 men. If you could bottle SUFC at the moment it would be a bottle of 'Hartlepool'.
Craig's decision making not the best this season.

10 minutes of recklessness when already two goals up effectively cost us 2 points.
Whilst disappointing we have to remember what an absolute legend Craig has been for this club.

Thought that we were going to have a repeat of Newport away last season - 2-0 up, David A a scorer, Craig sent off - lose 3-2. At least we got a draw this time and kept a healthy gap between ourselves and the likes of Hartlepool, Rochdale, Harrogate etc - which for me is the most important thing this season. We had 7 players missing today, maybe still doubts about Coby's match fitness and now face losing both Craig and Will. Might be struggling to fill the bench against Swindon on Tuesday. We might only be 4 points off the play offs - but with one win in the last five games and a growing list of absentees, they are looking quite a way off at the moment. Big plus point from today - Lee Angol.

Not sure we have 7 players missing who would have played today. More or less a full strength team apart from Milsom! One win from the last 5 games doesn't really tell the full story.

Up until the red card we were in control of this match. Hartlepool looked like relegation bankers and Lee Angol, on his first start for us, looked the real deal, scoring his first goal in Sutton colours after David had rifled us into the lead. Pools were guilty of some ugly challenges early on, one of which ended Will's partipation in the game, and the ref's leniency then made what followed seem like an injustice. Craig's first yellow card (I assume for dissent) may have been harsh, but a player of his experience, having been booked, should have known better than to make a tackle on the touchline that was both risky and unnecessary.
The hosts got back into the game with two exceptional strikes in the six minutes before half-time, the first a free kick from Dan Kemp, but that turned out to be their purple patch. In the second half it was a case of us digging in for the point, Jack Rose making a couple of smart saves late on, one from another Kemp free kick.
An away point is rarely to be sniffed at, but this did feel like a game we should have won.

I didn't say we had 7 players missing all of whom would have started today - but would at least have been contenders for a place on the bench. I think that Louis would probably be classified as '1st Xi' along with Rob.

I get that it’s never over until it’s over but it really is bordering on derisory to this group talking about relegation. 1 win in 5, how’s about 1 defeat in 8 (4 wins)? There was only one potential relegation team on view today and it wasn’t us.
Reports on Angol sound promising, let’s hope he is a forward that comes in and really fires.
Real shame about Craig and missing him and potentially Will Tuesday is not ideal (but not insurmountable).
