We need to pick up 3 points here otherwise we could get cut adrift from the play off teams. Good to hear we have 2 players back who were unavailable last Saturday but then we have another who has picked one up. Walsall lie 18th in the form table whereas we have dropped back to 11th.
We need our strikers to start hitting the back of the net and i shall be travelling up in hope and expectation.

Walsall have drawn ten of their last fifteen, we've drawn three of our last five. I wouldn't expect the bookies to be offering short odds on an away win!
They did lose 2-0 at Plough Lane on Tuesday and I've little doubt that Matt was watching. Let's hope he's spotted a weakness or two that we can exploit.
We're certainly due a win against this lot.

Just seen we're now going to be wearing amber rather than black, which was the original plan.
Today is Harry Beautyman's birthday so I think a result at Walsall would be a decent present 😁

Season over in terms of play off interest. Seemed in total control of that one. Poor to let them get in late on to concede the free kick and poor bit of goalkeeping, though the area in front of him was awful in some mitigation. And where were we on that follow up too. Walsall were dealt with with ease but as we know often 1 isn’t enough. Thought Smith and Enzio were stand outs. Defence generally not remotely troubled all afternoon.

Frustrating that, we concede again in injury time. We must keep the ball better when it come’s to the last few minutes of the game and also paid for not getting the second goal. I also agree with Gareth, our play offs are over, but we should not be too disappointed because we are in this league for another season, so on wards and up wards. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Plus no Rowe, Angol only on the bench and Dennis not in the squad.

An hour later and the frustration is still rising! So so frustrating as we were under no pressure, there was no big finish, no charge from the home side, no sign of throwing loads forward, just a little break, a free kick a mile out and a goal from nothing.

21 points to play for. This team doesn’t give up. I still think we might sneak into the play-offs.

Whilst we can beat anyone on our day the chances of winning at least 4 and probably 5 against 5 of the top 6 are quite considerably beyond remote. At least we have 4 home games versus promotion contenders and should get big away followings to fill the coffers before the summer. The games we have are interesting and hope we can play our way to top 10 again.

I’m on my second bottle of wine!!! Seriously, it’s a long shot, yes, but not a complete lost cause.

Shows you how far we’ve come that we’re frustrated at not seeing out a win at Walsall to enhance our play-off prospects. Todays result probably renders the play-offs too greater ask now - no bad thing in my opinion - we’re not quite there yet and don’t score anywhere near enough goals (just 41 in 39 games).
Still, I’m looking forward to the game on Good Friday - should be a bumper crowd.

Again we snatch a draw from the jaws of victory. At least the very slim play off chance has now gone and it’s back to reality.
Top of the list for next season must be more goals. 2-0 up and the late mistake is insignificant. We struggle to score in open play and have been less effective from set pieces compared to last season.
7 points from a possible 18 is never play off material.
Let’s enjoy our final games and maybe try something a little different? After all we have nothing to lose.

Glass half full or half empty?, the playoffs have gone, but league status is assured for a 3rd season with 7 matches to go and what should be a comfortable mid table or better finish.
In truth the squad isn't quite strong enough to make a serious push for promotion. In patches we have looked although we could grab a playoff spot, but not over an entire season. What the squad has done is a fantastic job in making the U's a very tough lg2 outfit. At this level you need money if you want to progress or even just stand still.

That was our best performance of the four against Walsall but we've still not beaten them. It was an uncharacteristic error by Jack Rose to gift them that last-minute tap-in but, to echo what Matt said in his post-match interview, I wouldn't heap too much blame on him. Arguably we should have been more than one goal ahead by that stage so rendering theirs a consolation rather than an equaliser. And did we need to concede the free kick which led to that goal? We'd been pretty effective at shutting them down in open play.
All round, it was a more entertaining and open game than the three previous encounters, and, if we continue to play like that, we will win more than we lose. But I have to agree that reaching the play-offs, though not impossible, looks too much of a stretch. For me, the defeat to Grimsby was the killer result. Before that I'd had yesterday's game down as a likely draw.
