No trialists and no center backs in line up tonight

Is it our style of play or the players to blame for not posing an attacking threat? One game to sort it out.

Matt still has work to do: think I read no senator half’s to night and others still out assumably injured, so a bit worrying at the moment with only one more friendly to play. Matt was not happy with Saturdays performance and will probably not be to happy to night, just did not get into the game, so will be interesting to hear his thoughts on tonight’s game and the new signing and others too. Still think we will be ok. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

I think we still need at the very minimum a quality signing up front.

I think going as it appears to start season without any fit centre backs or experienced cover at right fullback is equally concerning. I missed tonight, family commitments, tried to follow on twitter might have missed the report but did we have a threatening shot?. As the old TV programe reminds me "it will be alright on the night" well afternoon of 5 August fingers crossed.

We were well beaten this evening, and Woking wouldn't have been flattered by 4-0. Their keeper didn't have to make a save worth mentioning, while Jack Rose made several. But, with all of our centre backs unfit, and a number of players forced to cover unfamiliar positions, we were always likely to struggle against decent National League opponents.
Craig Eastmond, filling in at centre back, was (once again) badly missed in central midfield. The central pair of Clay and N'Guessan sat deep, meaning that there was no pressing, and our forwards had insufficient support.
We looked a little more threatening with Angol and Milsom on in the second half, but finishing the match with Sam Hart and young Jack Taylor in the centre of defence illustrated the thinness of Matt's options tonight.

This is clearly going to be a work in progress once he season starts. So far we have not been anywhere near the level you need to be to compete in league 2. Apart from gaining fitness we are not really going to get anywhere until something like the first choice 11 play in their favoured positions.

Apart from gaining fitness we are not really going to get anywhere until something like the first choice 11 play in their favoured positions. Which rarely happens until the last PSF. I thought you'd have seen enough football to know you can't judge progress in a league based on pre-season friendlies? Can't remember which season it was, but I'm sure there was one where we won all our PSF at a canter and either ended up being relegated or having a poor season.

There are a few worrying signs at the moment though. My main concern is not with the defence which looks good when fit but with the quality we have up front and the lack of wingers which we rely on with our present system.

I recall a season many moons ago in amateur era when the team had a very poor pre-season .Us fans who then stood on the old shoe box were fearing the worst when at last moment in Came John Delaney England Centre half, and the season looked up and all was ok. It might take just one stellar signing like that to lift everyone's optimism.

Do people's optimism need lifing? We lost a meaningless friendly against a side who raised their game against a side, albeit slightly injury hit, who the result wasn't as important for them.
Aside from the few going into panic on here, anyone with any sense of logic knows the unimportance of results in friendlies.
