Completely deserved the win today 😄 Every player put a shift in. Hopefully that’s given them a massive confidence boost and they carry on putting in the same effort for the rest of the season. Just might be enough 🤞🏻

Nice to get 3 points, of course I wasn’t able to make one of my closest games! Would be even nicer if we can back it up with 3 points next week but in the meantime I’ll enjoy tonight.

Deserved win, our first clean sheet since Boxing Day, and a mirror image of the score at GGL last September (which, in retrospect, looks a real stinker of a result).
Josh Coley's strike from distance was the sort of goal we've been conceding rather than scoring this season. Credit too to the defence and midfield, Charlie Lakin again a bright spark in the engine room.
They say that it's the hope that kills you. Most of us were resigned to relegation after the disappointments against Tranmere, Grimsby and Crewe. Yet after today's result, and thanks also to Colchester's unconverted penalty against Walsall, we're only three points off 22nd place. But then there are the games the others have in hand. The next few weeks could be rather tense.

I have to agree with a lot of what SM said in his interview, the team have not been playing like a side at the foot of the table. U's completely bossed the match and should have won by 2 or 3 clear goals, the fact we only won by the odd goal is why we are where we are in table.
As SM says 7 games to go, 7 cup finals,

A great day yesterday with the win. And a good showing from all the team.
I must comment on 2 points from yesterday. 1.on behalf of all who went on the 2 coaches ,a big thank you to Alison and Ryan and the drivers for the running of same. 2.the day was marred by the idiot who let that flare off.

I have to agree with a lot of what SM said in his interview, the team have not been playing like a side at the foot of the table. Even the Horsham manager said as much on 5Live back in December before our cup tie claiming we were in a false position. It’s a shame we haven’t been able to pull away as I also think we’re better than our position suggests.

An enjoyable afternoon yesterday in Gloucestershire to witness one of our better performances this season, I thought we defended well throughout despite FGR not throwing a huge amount at us and the score line probably should have been a little more convincing given efforts hitting the woodwork. A really great strike from Josh Coley - showing us fans what he can do. We must now do what we haven’t done previously.. back up a league win! Notts County W5-1 then lost at Barrow Walsall W4-0 then lost at Doncaster Bradford W2-1 then drew at Colchester AFC Dons W1-0 then lost at Gillingham Notts County W4-3 then lost at Tranmere
Accrington next Saturday is huge.

Found a nice pub near the ground too. Four of us tripled the number of customers!

Great team performance yesterday. Great goal too, not just the shot itself but the build up to it, a great passing move. Ollie Sanderson started it and I think that was his best performance in a Sutton shirt thus far. Josh Coley too had a great game but for me the win was based on a solid back four with Joe Kizzi and Omar Sunwonmi outstanding in the middle and Sam Hart back to his best. Jacko made up a fine quartet. Credit to Steve M & Co for swapping the wingers over midway through the first half, Josh able to cut in onto his favoured foot to curl the ball in. Arguably U's most dominant 90 minutes since the opening match of the season. Three points deserved reward for a fine and energetic performance.
The afternoon wasn't without its issues. Yet another smoke bomb; thanks for filling our lungs with that crap. The stewards got their man, well teenager, in the end at the third attempt. Football ban, criminal record plus the cost of the pyro itself, what's the point? Then afterwards, cop cars & vans heading up the hill as we made the slow crawl down it. Nailsworth, beautiful, sleepy Cotswolds town, a hot bed for football's worst.
And to FGR FC. Allegedly, SUFC was only sent tickets for seating and the so-called covered standing. The cheaper open standing tickets were not sent. How the hell were the majority of the Sutton contingent meant to get under that overhang of the seats in that small space in front of the equally derisory seating area? Joke club and how do they get away with it? When you consider what Sutton had to do accommodate the away fans to meet efl requirements it rather sticks in the claw. Fortunately it was mainly dry unlike our first efl season.
Then there is the not so subtle messaging about not using cars, come on foot. Really, a town in the middle of nowhere with no train station. Then what would be a killer (for some including me) walk up that hill. The amount of Co2 saved walking up there would probably be offset by the amount of cremations required after doing so. And still there is the pollution from the queues down the hill after the match. A venue way off the owner's vision I'd say.
Have to agree with IS4 about how well the coach drivers did, especially on the journey to Nailsworth. It was a long way round but traffic free for the most part. Still, not quite sure how the team coach got back before we did though?
Stanley up next, that imposter, hope, once again giving us a nudge.

Just go there and enjoy the experience of Sutton United playing in the Football league. Well i did and long may it continue. No great expectation but this 3 points puts us within touching distance of two teams above us. Those two teams will now be feeling nervous and may well have contributed to Cochester's missed penalty. Let's just see what excitement we can have next Saturday!

One could argue that FGR were the poorest side we've played this season. But I do think that we made them look that way. Totally agree with Frakey regarding our defenders today, and Kizzi I think had the best game he's had this season, which I'm sure he would say hasn't been up to the standards of previous seasons. Omar got stronger as the game went on, and Sam Hart put so much into the game he was running on fumes in the last 15 mins. And full credit to Coley who also had his best game in a while and scored a cracker (looked even better in replays)
A really hard earned win for us - whether it will be too little too late is yet to be seen, but a huge congratuations to the side for getting a 3 points at a place we could have easily come away with nothing. It goes without saying that we need to follow this up on Saturday and get our first home victory (in any competition) of 2024.
Although it's very unlikely the intended audience will read this, that tiny minority responsible for the flare and the reported pathetic behaviour at Swindon and Stroud stations should foo off and never come back to a Sutton game. You're a disgrace to the club.

A good win needs to be followed up . We have 3 players from the match day squad on international duties. As Mr Morrison said several others have illness indeed one of Saturdays squad was unwell during the game. He though inferred he and the squad will have to mix and match for next weekend's fixture. Other clubs with a few players on international duty have been able to delay matches to a later date ? Should the club consider this avenue to give us the best chance of winning ? I feel we need to have 18 fit players offering a balanced squad for next fixture .

I feel we need to have 18 fit players offering a balanced squad for next fixture . Having attended the Accrington Stanley v Bradford game nine days ago I’d say it’s a good time to play AS. They’ve just lost their long term manager and haven’t won yet under the interim. They lost 0-3 against Bradford and had an extremely young team out. They’re safe. Like I said, good time to play them.

This is strictly for the Accrington Stanley match thread, but I'd add that there have been several times this season when we've faced opponents seemingly out of sorts or in poor form, and we've failed to beat them (and often lost). I'm therefore not getting my hopes up for next Saturday.
That said, I detect a sense that the FGR match has sharpened the team's focus on actually winning these tight encounters. As Steve Morison said, they now need to treat each game as if it were a Cup final.

It's probably not a good time for a fixture pile-up (yes this is one game but the weather hasn't exactly been bliss lately and we have a busy Easter weekend coming up). Of course the management team would have a better idea than we do of what the squad will look like and what the best options are.
