Nichols drop-kick struck their forward and rebounded across goal for a tap-in.

Doesn't bode well for saturday or does it? I understand Ricay were defending for their lives in the 2nd half and rarely ventured forward. We are better at home so they will not look forward to coming to GGL on Saturday.

The goal was difficult to understand really. As we saw from Saturday's game, an attacker cannot try to block a kick from the keeper's hands - every time Nicholls tried to get a bit of space to drop-kick it out, Flack (?) side-stepped to get in his way. Which, as we saw on Saturday twice, should be a free-kick and yellow card. Nicholls then kicked it at Flack - presumably to get the ref to award a free-kick - but this was a different ref, so there was no problem and play continued, allowing Flack to cross the ball to Bricknell to knock the ball into an empty net.
The penalty was a joke of a decision from a joke of a referee, so it was a small relief that it was saved.
The game as a whole.....we dominated possession - probably about 70% - without really creating many clear-cut chances. Wilde wasn't on form and didn't supply much, and I thought the two central midfielders were probably too similar to each other to play as a pairing. Hopefully Palmer will be fit to play on Saturday to replace one of Heeroo/Murray.
Still early days in the grand scheme of things and we've certainly got enough in us to make the play-offs at least. We've only got one more scheduled midweek away game for the rest of the year so we should be able to start picking up points more regularly and getting some consistent form going.
Not many made the journey tonight either which was slightly disappointing. Essex obviously doesn't appeal to many people!!

This was a frustrating game, with defences very much on top - the only goal came in controversial circumstances already described.
I thought we started and finished the stronger side, but slumped a little during the middle part of the match.
As an attacking force Billericay were about the most pedestrian side we've faced all season. But they had the experienced Tim Cole at the heart of their defence and he got to just about every dangerous ball we put into their box.
We'll need to show a bit more invention if we're to win the Cup match on Saturday.

Adding to Mr Aleman, we were literally on top of them from the start of the 2nd half until the penalty at very least. The reffing was a joke, but that doesn't take away from the fact that we are struggling to put away chances we are making.
I've noticed in the last couple of games how ineffective our corners have been. I have a simple answer - PUT SOMEONE BIG ON THE NEAR POST! Both our corners from tonight and the previous game we could have made something out of them but in the most cases they were wasted chances. Gavin shouted to Herroo "Get it past the first man" - basically if we can't get to our first man, put our man there first - worst case scenario is it blocks the vision of the keeper!!!!
OK i'm no coach, but something to think about?

I am guilty of not making the trip to Essex, these away midweek games at just the worst to get to.
Anyway, looking at the stats we have scored 11 goal in 10 league games, 7 have come from Gavin who is not a centre forward and only 4 from others. Those stats tell you a lot! We have created bags full of chances yet are not clinical in front of goal. Pretty football is pointless without end product and promotion without it is not going to happen.
Second point is if you can't score you don't want to concede daft goals, Paul Nicholls has on 2 occasions done just that, changing the Game at Tooting and costing a point tonight.
Simply sort those 2 things out we will get promoted and if we don't then its mid table obscurity.

I thought we were poor tonight. We created very little to test their keeper. I can only remember 1 effort on target. Their defence was awesome and I am not looking forward to Saturday ~ unless as mentioned, we can find some more craft in our play. There is a pattern emerging with away games being a problem for us. Let's hope we can turn this around.

Still no win in midweek. I thought the match was dire tonight. Ricay come into the frenetic, work hard philosophy type of teams & played the long ball alot (still, we did too). They were tight at the back and we rarely looked like scoring.
As for their goal - probably a free-kick but why didn't Paul just shove past him rather than kick the ball at the forward - unless he just misjudged it? OK, he saved a penalty (joke decision) later on but in the end we lost on that oe decision.
Lesson: no ref is the same, you will rarely see concistency in this type of decision so don't expect it & play the percentages game not what you think should happen.
