It’s odd they don’t explain the reason with the announcement.

Might it be tv another team recently made a similar fixture change.

Does it matter?! Obviously it’s a Gateshead issue, possibly this game will be shown on TV or maybe something to do with other teams who share our pitch eg CP ladies.

It is hardly a state secret. A few words of explanation in the club statement why would not have hurt. Instead time is spent given the history of matches between us and Gateshead, seems irrelevant for a fixture date change.

I expect it's for tv but the club won't be allowed to make an announcement until an official announcement has been made and one hasn't been made so far.

Not really other than to the few that for whatever reason can’t make the new date, but would save the bother of questions that inevitably follow - surely common sense.

Palace aren't playing. I've just checked. Since we're the primary club playing at that ground, I can't see a late-notice change being made to a fixture we've had since the summer for Palace's benefit.

Have the club explained why the fixture was put back a night? Or does it remain a state secret? It though looks like the league have split the fixtures between Tuesday and wednesday? Must something behind the decision Can't believe it is to detract attention away from the champions league games. With Arsenal playing at home on Tuesday maybe the met police can not cover both their fixture and our game. Don't think Arsenal games have influenced our attendances too often though

Of course it does not matter in the greater scheme of things, knowing won't change the world or that the game will be played on a Wednesday it is just something I am curious to understand why, like many aspects of life that lead to changes in habit understanding why helps one to adapt. Then again who decides what matters at SUFC. Ie the media team not writing a decent report seems to have mattered to some while to me not an issue as watched the game live .

Fixtures are determined by the NL in this instance. What is comes down to is the terms of the agreement between them and DAZN. In its simplest the view is more customers will watch (and pay for) matches in the NL if they are split over two evenings when broadcast is allowed, than if all matches are on the Tuesday. I suspect many neutrals would prefer the attractions of Champions League over National League on the Wednesday, but some Gateshead supporters (as an example) might watch an alternative game on the Tuesday as a neutral in addition to Gateshead on Wednesday. So, no its not a state secret.

Thank you Tim for the explanation , does this indicate that the NL will split the full schedule of midweek fixtures between Tuesdays and Wednesdays going forwards or is this a one off? Perhaps I should say why I ask. Eg should our return fixture with gateshead be moved could influence travel booking hotels , days off work etc
